Xbox, Nintendo, PS3, PC etc?

What are your favourite games, can you recommend any good ones? I'm a fan of the Battlefield games and Rome Total War games. I'm afraid of getting into Warcraft in case I never leave. The Half-Life games are also great.

Tomb Raider 1 and 2 remain the best games I have ever played on any platform. I lost months of my life to them.

Where to start.

As a youngster I had an Atari 2600 and loved Pac-Man and Pitfall.

From there I moved on to a C64 with both tape and disk drive. Elite for the C64 still remains on of the best games IMO of all time. Even though it is so basic it was years ahead of it's time and went on to inspire most 3D shooters.

I then had a NES with the best game undoubtably being Super Mario 3.

I moved onto a Sega Mega Drive afterwards with Dune II, Meglomaina, Sonic II, Street Fighter II and Road Rash being favourites of mine.

The release of the PS1 brought as Baldy has already mentioned Tomb Raider.

The PS2 and the GTA series though are the best games I have played, the first one great and each release added more and more.

Titles for the PC which I like are Command and Conquer, Any Football Manager sim, Age of Empires, Warcraft and space games similar to elite.

The emulators are legal but having the games is illegal unless you own them, so you can pick up the emulators all over the net.

if i remember rightly they were essentially the same game with the only difference being the ball stuck to your feet on kick off and didn't on sensible soccer. so sensible soccer was for real men and kick off well you can guess the rest girly fag!

No way was it the same - Kick off 2 was much harder and the ball certainly didn't stick to your foot - in fact thats what made it a bit of a niche game because it was that difficult it took you weeks to master, the ball was uncontrolable in the hands of an amateur on the joystick......it was well worth persevering with tho and made it quite realistic - for a game......tup:

Sensible Soccer had much more depth, especially SWOS. You could pick any team from nearly any country and take them to the top before getting offers for the national side.

I don't even think Kick Off had a league to play in.

king billy

You made your own league, i have to admit it was a pain in the arse setting it up but the gameplay was what the game was about more - not fancy leagues and teams!!
Sensible soccer was obviously marketed at the younger end of the market and for folk who liked to pick up and play - kick off and kick off 2 were the 1st games that got away from the ball stuck to your foot type gameplay which had pretty much been the way for every single game beforehand!!
I had both and enjoyed both - but had you had the patience to master Kick off 2 you too would agree it was better!!

I'm too busy in my life to play games on the PC - and the fact that my work PC is the slowest in the world means I don't play them.

Re Kick Off v SWOS, i had both but preferred SWOS. I liked Kick Off though. I'm sure a version of it I had had a league on it and a world cup.

In my opinion the new generation consoles aren’t a patch on the old ones. My old NES and superNES were great and all the games were seta round good game play instead of great graphics. I never had a N64 as I went with a PS1 which was the biggest pile of pap I have ever had. Back to Nintendo with the gamecube and more recently DS, and once again the game play is spot on. Most Nintendo games are childish but at the end of the day I only use my console to kill half an hour here or there so I don’t want anything too involved.

The best drunken game of all time is Mariokart in all its different forms. The original SNES version kept me occupied for hours and the new one on Gamecube is great if you have a few beers down your neck. The Mario tennis and Mario golf are also a good laugh.

The DS has been the best I have had, firstly it’s a hand held so you can just pick it up and play whenever you want without all the wires etc. Secondly I have the GBA versions of Mario kart, Mario 2 and Mario World and also Donky Kong which are great hand held ports of the old versions. DS also has Tetris, New Super Mario Bros, Zookeeper, Mario 64 and Mariokart DS. All very playable games and all games you can pickup whenever you have a few spare minutes.

The Nintendo Wii looks again another step in the right direction and I will defiantly be buying it. You can keep your Xbox360’s and PS3’s, I much prefer the less involved games that Nintendo offer.
