List your favourite horror movies, with a comment about each one.

Mine, in reverse order:

10 The Shining

Ghost stories scare me more than pretty much any genre of horror, and Stephen King is the best horror writer out there. This remains for me the scariest book I've read, and the film carries it over. I appreciate that's a personal thing, and a lot of people probably are wondering what's so scary.

9 Interview With The Vampire

I just thought it was really well done. Very faithful to the book, which I enjoyed, and a film I've watched several times.

8 Carrie

One of the first horror movies I ever saw. And the bit at the end where her arm comes out of the grave made me jump about 10 foot in the air because I'd just gone towards the tele to get the tape out.

7 Saw

I thought this was one of the most original movies to come out in a long while, and it's my favourite horror movie of the last couple of years. It's very tight, there aren't any wasted scenes, and the twist at the end totally took me by surprise.

6 28 Days Later

I do like zombie movies, and I thought this was very well done. And it's a Brit flick as well http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/grinser/grinning-smiley-003.gif

5 The Wicker Man

Like nothing else I've ever seen. Not scary per se, but thought provoking.

4 Night of the Living Dead

Again, I'm a sucker for zombie movies, and this is the original one that set the standard. It proves that film can be scary without special effects.

3 Alien

Genuinely scary, and a masterpiece.

2 American Werewolf in London

A long time favourite. Many of the lines from it have become staples for repeating in my social circles - 'Stay off the moors', 'You made me miss.'

1 The Exorcist

Look in the dictionary under horror and this film is the definition.

Not many Horror movies are particularly memorable for me Baldy, mostly because it is a very difficult genre to get right. I love the Exorcist, Salem’s Lot, American Werewolf in London and the Shining is a good watch. Horror movies made now all have the same plot lots of good looking college kids getting killed one by one by a monster of some kind with very little plot.

I like you really enjoy watching Zombie movies, having watched the nineties remake of Night of The Living Dead and having nightmares as a youngster, I went and bought Day of The Dead which I would say is my favourite horror movie of all time. George Romero was a genius from the sixties up to the mid eighties and put Zombie Movies on the map providing gore, social commentary and great character development. He sold out with Land of The Dead in my opinion because he went for big budget which just doest work for that type of movie.

The problem is that Romero doesn’t own the copy right to his movies so we have these butcher job remakes like Dawn04 and the up coming Day remake in which it is rumoured there is a vegetarian zombie.

For your information Romero is making a new Zombie movie called Diary of the Dead which is about (yup you guessed) lots of good looking college students making a Blair witch type film about zombies (with actors) when the dead start to rise and kill them one by one!!!! He does promise he is going back to his roots though so there is hope.

The first Amityville did it for me in the ability to make me jump in terror. For suspense and storyline the original Wicker Man takes some beating , it all seems so innocent at first then the terror of what he's got involved in hits the policeman a classic.

Most of mine will be quite modern BTW, and i am an expert or like to think so on this Genre, so expect to rent or view at least all the films on my list you havn't seen.

10. Stay Alive- It's a new concept, i like it, kinda like the ring only this is a killer video game, some gore, not as much as there could be but it is a well thought out film.

9. Hostel, i like this after watching it again and again, it does get better the more you see it! Stick with it! Watch out for Hostel 2???

8. The Shining- Good psycological thriller, does drag towards the end, not my usual type of horror.

7. Childs Play- SERIES- Great fun slasher, chucky is just funny and the way he is is just fun, bride of chucky is hilarious!

6. Devils Rejects- FUN film, very, the freaks go on a killing spree and try to get away from a copper, watch this film!!

5. House of 1000 corpses- Thanks for the recommendation Norm, loved this film, bit weird in places though!

4. Saw & Saw2- Can't seperate them, they are the most well thought out films to date IMO

3. Stephen King's IT- WOW watched this the other day and is absolutely awesome, frightening and funny!

2. The Hills Have Eyes- BLOOD AND GORE YUMMMMMM

These are some of my favourites, can't think of 10

Halloween
Fright Night 1 & 2, with Roddy McDowell, camp horror, and frightening at the same time
House on Haunted Hill, a black and white 60's film, chilling
The Innocents, a black and white 60's film, very, very chilling
Alien, the first one in particular
Physco(sp?) probably fits into two categories, thriller amd horror
Carrie
Frankenstein - he's alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!, with Boris Karloff, brilliant use of light and shadow, and the scenes with the little girl are truly chilling

I've never been a lover of horror flicks, though as a kid I loved to be frightened half to death by Boris Karloff stomping around in a big pair of boots and a bolt through his neck!

Anyway, I took my daughter to see the grudge a couple of years back and it was a cracking good old fashoined horror movie ( I found myself nearly shouting out " don't go up the f**king stairs !!).

I watched a movie a few years ago called 'Eraserhead' it was most disturbing, though I hadn't the faintest idea what it was about.

I really enjoyed the first two sci-fi horror movies 'Alien ' and 'Aliens 2' classics in my opinion
