We don't actually need a target man to play football, we only need one to play a certain style, which involves launching it up to the strikers rather than playing through midfield. I'd prefer to use two quick, attacking wingers (which we now have) and two strikers with proven goalscoring records (which we also have). Whether Todd will do this is another matter entirely...

The squad is looking good, a target man means long ball stuff, other managers of city have been knocked for this style

We desperately needed a targetman last season because we had nobody who could get to the byeline and cross the ball into the box, Petta and Muirhead are both useless and the amount of crosses being delivered into the box was useless, hence we needed a big bloke up there to hold up the ball and lay it off for Deano. Fingers crossed if Holmes and JJ/Colbeck prove to be assets this season we won't need a targetman.

Think you are over simplifying there. A decent target man who is good in the air can unsettle defenders if he is able to get flick ons and win more headers.
Free kicks can be won in good areas to create goals. Has the other team trying to stop him from the free kicks and frees up other players. Helps when defending corners as they can pick up the their big defenders coming up. It also gives us different options for approaching games and keeps the oppostion manager guessing. A good one is hard to find - but as soon as CT can find one he should sign him in my opinion

Most teams in this div have big central defenders so it becomes a good little uns against good big uns, I recon good little uns can do it with good support which hopefully we will have this season

Look at the top scorers in this division last year!

http://itv.stats.football365.com/2006/ENG/D2/leadsc.html

How many of them are giant so-called 'Target men'??

How many quality ones are there?

How many of the "little uns" play off of a target man to achieve their total.

It provides another option to the style of play - face it how many times including City when struggling to find a goal hoof the ball in the air.
