Bantams boss appeals to chairman
Bradford manager Colin Todd has appealed to chairman Julian Rhodes to help him with the budget for players.
Todd is struggling to bring in the quality of players he feels the club needs if it is to mount a realistic challenge for promotion. "When my chairman looks at the squad then he has to realise that help is needed," Todd told BBC Radio Leeds. "It's up to me to give the players what they want and that is a better squad so that we have competition for places."
Is he off his head? Why say this now of all times?

I think what Todd is trying to say is 'I've heard the fans volleying abuse at me for not signing enough players, i can't do anything about it, the chairman controls how much i can spend and when'.

I can't see what Todd has done wrong here. He's been working with broken promises all close season. He made a couple of signings then was told to wait whilst Etherington paid his first installment. That's not Todd's fault. Etherington doing one and not coming up with the money has thrown his plans to the dogs and Todd is highlighting this fact cos the blame for lack of decent signings and piss poor league position will instantly fall at Todds door. I've said all along that our lack of progress has come from what the manager is given to work with and Todd is confirming that, probably due to being sick of the amount of stick he gets when the real problem, gets away scot free time after time.

I agree with Chucks in terms of Todd has done nowt wrong. I believe the Chairman is accountable and should have to answer these questions. However, I wouldn't have done it publicly. At least have the courtesy to have a private discussion first - smacks of what Todd is good at - defending! Overly defensive reaction to criticism levelled at him. Won't help the relationship between manager and chairman and I fully expect JR to be a bit more firm-handed in his approach should results not be the best in the early season. Then again we can't afford to.
God my head hurts with all this!:(

Typical of Todd, behaving like a small child trying to point the finger at everyone else for any failings he might be responsible for. Like SFB says this going public will not help the relationship between manager and chairman. He's just hammered in another nail into the coffin of his managerial career.

It's not sinking in is it? Junior Tells Todd where he can go for players, Todd goes there, players aren't good enough, Todd gets stick for poor performances despite having to bring in players that aren't good enough to get us out of this divison the right way. There has to be a point where Todd gets fed up all the grief and insults he gets for this and quite rightly he gets to a point where he's had enough.
This isn't a rant in support of Todd, but he can only work with what he's given and it's human nature to get sick and tired of getting non stop grief for working with his hands tied, whilst the bloke who ties them is seen as blameless for our lack of ambition, when he's totally to blame.
Todd's outburst is understandable and acceptable IMHO. It shows he's frustrated by our lack of progress and the rut we are stuck in and will contiue to be stuck in until our managers, present or future are given the tools to do the job.

I suppose Julian tells Todd to use such none attacking boring Deffensive tactics too both home/away? Get real!
No, but Todd realises that he has to, to keep us in this division.
Todd has been given more than adequate tools to get us out of this division.
No he has not, he's working on a budget that's more in keeping with the Conference than where we are, forget all the personal assumption that we are amongst the best payers in League One, we are not. Todd, like any manager that will replace him will not be able to build a team to get us up, the fact we have someone who can keep us up is as good as it is ever going to be for the forseeable. There is not one player within our capabilities to attract available that would turn us into promotion contenders, never mind a team full. That is a simple fact that is still relevent whoever finds themself as City manager, be it Todd, Rafa or McCall. Would you criticise a race horse trainer who was told he was only being given a Shetland Pony for not winning the Derby?? Because the football equivelent of that is Bradford City F.C.
If Todd was being negative and grinding the results out with a squad of capable players expected to play us to promotion, then I'd be on the bandwagon like a shot, but he's working, like he always has been, with Players not good enough to get set up elsewhere, you can convince youreself that, that's not the case if it makes you feel better, but you'd be wrong.
Staying up is our realistic target, Todd can deliver that. If promotion was a realistic target and Todd couldn't deliver, then fine, show him the door, but promotion is as far away a realistic target as you could get for us right now and there's no manager on earth could deliver that. Todd will only get the push if he fails to deliver what's realistically expected of us, and a finish anywhere above twenty first is delivering that expectation and Junior will stick with him for that reason alone.
You had a choice Beer, buy your ST or not, you bought one so it's no point moaning about a standard of football you knew you were going to get when you willingly handed over your cash.
Forget Promotion, it's not going to happen, Todd or No Todd.
I'm suprised Todd stayed quiet so long, For all Todd's faults and crappy mangerial skills he was promised a larger transfer budget, was told he could go get who he want's.
I'm guessing David Graham is here on loan until we can tie up this new investment as there is a clause to buy him at the end of the loan if we want.

That aint going to happen. He's unsackable as long as we aren't stranded in the bottom four. and that's a situation of Junior's own making.
