Regions for DVDs

I want to buy a DVD of one of my favourite films but can only get it from abroad. Do you reckon I will be able to watch region 1 and 2 dvds on my laptop? How do I find out?

There are quite a few sites on the web which offer software to make your laptop or home pc dvd player region free, for a small fee. The film companies don't like it one bit.

If you buy DVDs on sites like Ebay they normally say in the description which regions they are suitable for.

Why would I waste money on a DVD with the wrong region just to try it? I know eBay say which region the DVDs are that's why I need to know if the region they are advertising will work on my laptop...*sigh* ;)

You should be able to hack your DVD player - look on the net under "DVD hacks" and you should be able to make your DVD player region free - it worked with both of ours.....you normally have to enter a code via your remote control, a bit like entering a cheat code on a games console.....

At least if it don't work or they don't have a hack for yours you know not to buy the DVD.....tup:
Another way is to download software which allows you to rip the DVD onto your PC then copy it region free onto a blank DVD - although the software normally costs between 10-20 nicka (don't bother with crappy shareware like some cheapskates on here will recommend)!!....
