How are these calculated? I was talking to a US colleague and he was saying that USA could win the WC becasue they are ranked 4th in the world.

I didn't believe him so I checked;

OK he was a month out of date, but 5th in the World :confused:

Is it because they have played more games (this might explain why Germany are so low - no qualifiers) or did I fall asleep and wake up in a parallel universe where USA are world beaters?

Still, maybe I could use his confidence to make a little wager. I reckon that with USA being 5th and England being 10th, he ought to give be 2-1 on USA going further than us (and maybe 4-1 on Germany).

Not hard for the Us to be ranked so high, they get fifa points for beating teams like Panama and similar countries... You gain so many points for wins and cos' they play often against crap teams they pick up points and then tend to get the odd draw against Brazil and go shooting up the fifa rankings.

Although the US national side isn't a team to take for granted.

Germany have dropped because they haven't played any qualifying games which carry a higher ranking mark

Really misleading them rankings. I saw on TV they were saying about USA being ranked 4th not so long ago and how fake the position was. I don't really think you can debate Brazil but England being 10th while the USA are 5th on a par with Spain is bullshit

USA will flop this year, be surprised if they get past the group stages, not as good as they were in 2002.
