Shevchenko has just signed...

With Ballack and Shevchenko already snared along with the other striker i cannot see any other outcome even now...

In Shevchenko they have a 20+ a season striker if he adapts to the english game...

One more big name to come apparently too...

A really shit hot centre half to partner Terry would complete that dream team! See who shines in the WC.

Wonder if they would risk a wager on Campbell now he is free to go...Could do a lot worse....

These two additions will make Chelsea a much stronger force as Shevchenko is one of the Top 5 strikers in the world, the chasing pack will have to do something special to catch up now.

Two great players who are coming downwards after peaking. Chelsea wouldn't have had a prayer of signing either of them in their prime. These are money over desire motivated signings too, this is a final big payday to these players, not a decision built on any ambition.

I expect all the so called "chasing pack" to make better value signings this summer in exactly the same way that they have all between them got better options already than both these players.

Ballack and Schevcenko are both good signings but not at the transfer fee and salaries Chelsea have forked out. They are seen as the mugs of the football world to other clubs and greedy players and agents. A Pair of 30 Year olds, even with such pedigree should be worth 5 Million tops.

Shevchenko is less than 1 year older than Henry, I presume Henry would of been a waste of money too?

Don't think he's saying that Rick, think he's making the very valid point that the fees involved are grossly over-inflated and this does nothing to help football finances when the transfer market should be getting back to normal.

I wouldn't entertain the thought that a player is worth 30mill in today's market and this serves to widen the divide between the very rich, the rich and those below Tottenham who are pretty well skint.

At 30 Million quid? Yes he would. Besides, Henry is one of the better options the chasing pack have that I mentioned and Henry at present is still AT his peak, not coming down the other side.

What makes you think he is losing form and getting past his best? He was Top Scorer in last seasons Champions League scoring 4 more goals than Henry.

That's as may be. But his signing does not represent good value for Chelsea. His signing doesn't really elevate them above where they finished last season and his signing won't deliver the Champions League that will save Jose's job. He'll score a few goals for em, if he can adapt to playing in a more difficult league than he's been comfortable in. However if a team is laying 30 million quid plus a whopping salary for a player that's a quick fix to save the managers job as opposed to a long term outlay, then you have to question the logic in it. Chelsea hav bought themsens a very good player, but not at good value and not one that guarantees long term success. As good a player as he is, it's a poor buy.

If any City games clash with Chelsea on Sky next season rick, I'll buy your City match ticket for a fiver if it's still in the Bantams Bar. Just think, ten games'll pay for your sky box office season ticket....

I'm unbelieveably siding with Chuckle in regards to Shevchenko. He is one of the greatest forwards in the game, and he is if he can adapt, capable of scoring 20+ goals. One year older than Henry maybe, but Henry is at his peak, Shevchenko has passed his. I don't doubt he will do an amazing job for Chelsea, but they have spent way over the odds in getting him. That cannot be good for football. Not to mention that Milan might be relegated anyway due to the scandal, which would have meant Shevchenko having to leave anyway. Who else would have paid such a silly amount.

Still it's going to be great seeing him in the Premiership next season. Chelsea are definately favourites for a THIRD title in a row.

What rubbish are you talking ffs...Do you actually know this blokes stats...

Career on the way down...

BTW If Crouch and Johnson are worth 8 million + Shev, Henry, Ronaldinho etc are easily worth 30 million..(Not that i agree with any of those prices...)

Shevchenko made his Serie A debut on August 28, 1999 in a 2-2 draw with Lecce. The season turned out to be extremely fruitful personally, Shevchenko's haul of 24 league goals in 32 matches earned him the highest scorer title in the Serie A

He took the Ukraine to the 2002 World Cup. Shevchenko scored 10 goals in the qualifiers, but Ukraine failed to qualify after losing the playoff against Germany, and Lobanovsky was sacked.

The next two seasons Shevchenko scored 34 goals in 51 matches, and 17 goals 38 matches respectively, in all competitions, but Milan could not win any silverware either season.

The disappointment of the past two seasons was overcome in 2002-03 as Milan won the Champions League as well as the Italian Cup. Though Shevchenko was not in top goal-scoring form in the league, netting only five times in 24 matches, he scored the winning penalty in the Champions League final against arch-rivals Juventus, giving Milan the title. Shevchenko is the first Ukrainian ever to win the Champions League.
2003-04 was another successful season for both Milan and Shevchenko. He top scored in the league for the second time in his career, scoring 24 goals in 32 matches and taking Milan to the league title after a gap of four years. He also scored the winning goal in the UEFA Super Cup against FC Porto, Milan winning the match 1-0, and their second trophy of the season.

In December of 2004 Shevchenko was named the European Footballer of the Year.

In August 2004, Andriy scored three goals against Lazio in the Italian Super Cup and earned Milan the title. In the same season of 2004-05, the club finished second in league standings, helped by the seventeen goals of Shevchenko. They also reached the final of the Champions League, with him scoring six goals in ten matches.

In October 2005, Ukraine finally managed to qualify for the finals of a World Cup when they topped their qualification group for the 2006 World Cup, winning seven games out of twelve, and losing only one. Shevchenko was instrumental in this inspired performance by the team, scoring six goals out of the total eighteen by Ukraine.

In the 2005-06 season, Shevchenko has scored 19 goals in the 22 games that he has played in the league till now, and 10 goals in the Champions League matches. Shevchenko also led the Ukrainian national team to its first qualification for the World Cup, to take place in June 2006.

Sheva was voted world greatest player in 2005, beating Thierry Henry and Ronaldinho.

So which part of that last part shows he is on the slide...Thats one of the funniest things ive read ever.....Please keep up the humour fellas...
