View Full Version : World Cup Frenzy
I am not sure why, but this world cup has got everybody excited. I think the England Team have a serious chance with or without Rooney. Obviously it will increase our chances if he can play a part.
Everywhere you go there is red and white flags............which is good and nice to see. We even had an email asking managers to be sympathetic to people who wanted to watch the football, so that people can make up the timejump: also warning of the perils of arriving at work the worse for drink........I have never known anything like it.....
anyway as you can see I am just about ready for the off; so who is first up with the barbie's or am I in the chair??

In true English fashion we are all building ourselves up for 'Four more years of hurt'. With regards the World Cup:(
Our best chance ever for silverware is certainly Euro 2008 - which i believe we will wintup: tup:

In true City C&B style you mean....
So many teams this time have a chance...Lets just get to the 1/4s before we peak too soon ...
But agreed about the St George's flags ...Brill to see long may it last..

Im normally the eternal optimist, I just dont think we really are all that:(
Too many 'big' players who havent played enough this season, along with a management team who all seem concentrated on their next appointmentstdwn:

Sorry bg, but the nearer it gets the more negative I feel, and unless our lads switch on when it starts I fear the worst.
Being realistic, right now I'm thinking we'll be lucky to qualify. After watching the two recent friendlies I have zero confidence in Sven and I don't believe we have any players playing well enough to trouble the top teams, infact on current form I doubt whether we'd trouble most of the mediocre ones either. Therefore, AT THE MOMENT, imho, Paraguay will win the group and Sweden will have to play badly to let us finish second. Then it's either Germany, Poland or Ecuador. Which strangely enough might be easier than the group stages.
Swedens friendly results this year have been very poor, but they did well in qualifying and only conceded four goals.

'Nilling' Hungary and Bulgaria both home and away in competitive games makes interesting reading. They also beat the poorer teams convincingly every time they met. Tell me, how did we go on against Northern Ireland???
Paraguays results weren't bad either, especially against Argentina.
15 Nov 2003 Paraguay 2 v Ecuador 1
09 Oct 2004 Colombia 1 v Paraguay 1

Apparently their two heavy defeats against Peru and Equador came about when they 'lost the plot'. Let's hope they lose it against England, cos at the moment I reckon it might be our only chance!

It's entirely possible that I'm reading this wrong, but that would seem to suggest to me that the bookies expect us to qualify relatively easily - if you want to bet on England qualifying you have to put £8 down to win £1 back.
I don't do much, if any, bookie betting so someone better versed than me in it could perhaps confirm that.

You're on, that's one bet I'll enjoy losing. But, seeing as you've mentioned it, I think we should go double or quits on T&T finishing above Paraguay as well.

No worries BB, I'll give KB even money. It's just one of those daft Bantams Bar I told you so take the pish kind of bets. I'll have that many bets going during the WC this will just be a drop in the ocean.

Right so England win the group I get £20? England win the group and T&T finish below Paraguay were quits? If England win the group and T&T finish above Paraguay i win £40? Or if England fail to win the group you get £20? Have i got that right you'll have to spell it out to me?.....i've been having a few beers this evening in the sun....tup:  :D

Almost spot on, but to make it double or quits for both of us you missed off the bit about me winning fourty bar should Paraguay finish above T&T and England not win the group. jawdrop: :(
As Noel Edmonds would say, deal, or no deal???
well for me it is just one of those gut feelings, the fact that we haven't produced our best form is also a good sign...................................
now who remembers me saying that the England Cricket Team would win the ashes? How many took the preverbial out of mejump:
ok I might be wrong.......................but I don't think so:) now hang on to your hats or whatever, get ready for the best world cup the majority of you have seenEng: jump: jump: woohoo:

If you want some value on bettng on the group stages your best betting on how many points England will get.
7pts is the favourite at 2/1 and it's a very realistic bet. 0pts is the huge outsider at 300/1.
