Not a bad idea that.

Just had a thought. Season ticket holders don't pay anything week by week so that's about £4000 (maybe!) out of the pot. Could still be a thousand pounds or so though and a few rollovers would make it very worthwhile.

I think it's an excellent idea,if the club dont look into it they are mad.I think we on this site should reply to the thread in a posistive manor to make the club sit up and listen.
I know if one of my mates won that sort of prize, the next home game would guarantee twenty of my mates turning up.

Hi

I’m a lifelong City fan and its pains me to see our great ground virtually empty each week so I’d like to put forward the following idea to increase the numbers of people coming each week.

My idea is that the club agree to put a pound into a pot for every fan who walks through the turnstile each week. At half time two bags (preferably FA cup draw style velvet bags) and a tombola are brought onto the pitch. One bag has the five balls representing home areas of the ground, ie. Sunwin stand upper and lower tiers, Carlsberg upper and lower tiers and the former-Ciba stand. The second bag has thirty or so balls marked with the rows in that stand. The tombola then has about 200 balls representing the seat numbers on that particular row.

The draw is made in the order outlined above creating excitement amongst the occupants of the particular stand, then the particular row and then the seat. The person holding the ticket for that seat wins the pot and has until the end of half time to claim it (cue Countdown music and a clock on the scoreboard title “Countdown To A Fortune”). If no one holds the ticket for that seat or if they fail to come forward then the pot is rolled over to the next home game.

Given current home attendances there is roughly a 2:1 chance of the money being won on any given week and the pot each week would be just over £7,500. If the club could attract just 450 additional fans to each game then the cost would be met. However, I think that the likelihood of at least one rollover is so high and that the chance of winning £15,000 plus just for turning up to see your team would result in at least another 1,000 fans coming through the turnstiles (1,000 fans times an average ticket price of say £15 less a pound each for the pot) and another £14,000 to the club per home game. The PR that would be available to the club for rewarding its fans in such a way would be fantastic – imagine a picture of Julian Rhodes handing a fan a cheque for £25,000 after there had been a two match rollover and an increase of 10% on gates which has not only paid for the prize but earned the club vital additional revenue. Even if the prize is won every week then I am sure a succession of images of fans walking away with £7,500 per week will spark some interest.

Given that nobody is asked to buy a ticket and it is merely a way of the club rewarding loyal supporters then it should fall outside of the gaming and lottery regulations if that is seen as a problem.

Just an idea – let me know what you think.

Cheers

PS – In respect of the atmosphere at games (or lack of it) I know that Nantes in the French First Division appoint a “Chant Leader” for each game and give him/her a megaphone to start chants and raise the volume. I’m sure that there are more than enough loudmouths at Valley Parade each week who would jump at the chance!! I’d volunteer, but I’m not sure that you’d want the other fans to hear my views on the linesman’s performance at 150 decibels!!!!!

very,very good idea

the club won't take it up though....

I think its an excellent idea- as jimbo said earlier if fans geniunely won some dosh like that it would most certainly boost the crowds !!

just trying to work out how to get round the fact that the season ticket holders wouldnt have to pay tho !

suggestions !

oh n jimbo

I know if one of my mates won that sort of prize, the next home game would guarantee twenty of my mates turning up.

that would mean hijackin yet another table tho ! lol
