OK it's only the under 8s, but they are due to do battle on monday at Thorpe Edge near Wetherby. Apparently the ground is opposite a prison so the Leeds side will obviously have a significant home field advantage. The inmates 'Leeds Leeds Leeds...' chant can be quite intimidating so I've been told.

Therefore I'm going for a 7 or 9-1 win for United. :(

Kin 'ell, the deliberate mistake didn't last long did it???

Ever since I got told I can't get that old advert out of my mind, you know the one, 'summat, summat, Brigg and Thorpe Arch.' Thing is I can't remember what it was for. Was it carpets or furniture or summat like that?

What can I say, for kids that young the levels of skill, awareness, organisation, speed of thought, strength and determination on display were simply staggering. Unfortunately though I'm talking about the lads that played in white shirts, they were awesome!

With 16+ lads to choose from they played four quarters of fifteen minutes rather than the normal eight a side twenty minutes each way. It's unfair to criticise young lads playing together for the first time, so I'll just say the gulf in class between the two sides was enormous. Listening to the parents there were allowances to be made. It was the City lads first game together, they've never played on a pitch that big with full size nets before. The Leeds lads train together twice a week(on the same surface)as opposed to once, they've played more games together, and, according to some of the parents, a lot of the boys weren't playing in the positions they play in week in week out for their clubs and have never been asked what position they play.

Anyway, the bottom line is they got battered, and the scoring for the four quarters went something like this, 4-0, 8-1, 13-3, 18-3. They will get better(I HOPE!!!), but those boys that train them certainly have some work to do.

P.S. While not completely distraught Loyalish junior was obviously down in the dumps(like his Father), and it was hard work finding positives to gee him up. I certainly gave it my best shot, and talking about his goal helped, I just didn't have the heart to tell him apart from that he was crap.

Crap or not, he not only scored a goal for City, he scored it against Leeds, therefore my cap is doffed accordingly.

Sounds like City's goal of the season to me.
