Jewell was shite as a player and always held the club to ransom at neew contract time too. He always hung on to see if there was owt on offer elsewhere before signing his new deal. Much the same kind of behavior than when he talked to the Wendies behind City's back when he was contracted as our manager.
Regardless, I wish him all the best today though and hope he takes some silverware to the JJB before his move to St James' Park.

chucks PJ only talked to SWFC after the fatefull celebration lunch with GR when he was told that he was tactically niave, that on top of GRs constant interference in team affairs was the final straw only then did he talk to the wendies.
If you read the new city book "the pain and the glory" PJ lists many examples of GRs inteference, selling Youds to Charlton against Jewells wishes, sending Beagrie on loan to Everton, siging Rankin for £1.3m when Jewell told him he was only worth £50k, GR only signed him to please David Dein who he hoped would get him on the top table at the FA, if you read the book theres quite a bit more about long daily meetings, telling him to play offensive all the time..............

I don't remember PJ as being in the "shite" mould , he had talent and we saw glimpses of it from time to time - I always remember him playing for 90 minutes at 100% - and recall him being shifted about to accomodate other players - overall , not a playing legend but warrants a place in the middle of the table .
Obviously reflects that some of the posters were still in shorts when he played for us :-)

Steve Torpey - been a good lower division player with over 170 goals in his career , now about 36.
Aye he was shit he was ( shakes head at yet another unwise post by someone)
And who signed Super Sean McCarthy ?

Torpey was shite wisey - at least while he played for us, a lazy, arrogant arsehole!! He might have done OK since he left but i can't remember one game where he stood out for us!!
And i reiterate what i said about Jewell - one good season, not the worst player weve had, like i said - on a par with Leonard, crap, but remembered fondly!!
Wes Reid wasn't owt special Steve, he wouldn't get in our team now - although maybe thats just a sign of how the general standard has improved at this level....
I don't think Jewell was crap as player. He was ok, and sometimes he played really well. I always remember him having a good start to the season, but then he used to tail off by October, and become ordinary.
I have seen much worse down at VP. Darren Morgan being one of them, didn't really take to Torpay either. Michael Duxbury was pretty crap by the time he played for us as well, didn't matter he played every match, as he and Stapleton were very close;)

Aye he wasn't too bad steve but if you remember he shit on us badly after his injury. Fair enough we managed to pull in 70k for him but after the way the club stood by him after his cruciate injury you would have thought he might feel some sort of loyalty to BCFC. Obviously not!
