Brentford football club have had a competition for a fan to become part of the management team for the game against Charlton Athletic.

The winner a 50 year old Brenford season ticket holder called Chris Swatton will join the management team at 11am on Friday morning and join in with training. They will then travel with the team to their hotel where he will have a meal with Marting Allen and his staff.

On the day of the game they will travel on the team bus to the game, be in the dressing room before kick off and take their place on the bench for the game. They will also have access to the dressing room after the game and will return on the team bus to Griffin Park.

Martin Allen put forward this idea and drew the winner himself.

I have never heard of a competition with a prize like this and think it will be a fantastic day for the winner win or lose. Fair play to Martin Allen and all the best for tomorrow.

The contrast is massive that Brentford have something like this for their fans where as sightings of most in charge at Valley Parade are as rare as a Bin Laden public appearance.

I believe Brentford were recently taken over by their fans - Bees Trust, maybe that has something to do with the difference re comms, competition etc. The fans will appreciate the need to talk to the fans and involve them in what some might think is a crazy competition, but what I think is a great PR stunt. bound to be picked up by the Beeb etc.

Imagine if it happened at City and Charlie got picked, the team would be too scared of his reaction to lose.

PMSL,

He'd be sent to the stands after about 30 seconds of the game.

Yeh, Charlie on the touch line would make Martin O'neil and Gordon Strachan look like models of retraint.

Didn't Martin Allen actually sit with Charlie for a while last season at VP?
