Is the old prediction league currently being run by Wykie going to be scrapped then? I don't see the point of having two prediction competitions running...

It's up to wykie, Ed wrote the code for this one and it's a score prediction game rather than the Home, Away and Draw league.

To be honest this one's easier to run as it's all automatic, you can't predict games after kick off, you can't change your prediction after kick off, each player signs in and enters their predictions in private and the table updates automatically. Wykie has signed up for it so it's his choice.

As long as the regulars want to keep it going I'll do the figures, maybe next season but to stop now would deny Loyalish his victory or will he faulter?

Currently we have 12 people registered for it and 5 sets of fixtures entered.

You can see what people have picked in the top corner but you can't see who picked them.

It seems a low-scoring format. To forecast the correct score must be about a 1 in 10 chance at best and the correct result is barely better than 1 in 3.

Stick with mine Mr. T. we make up the results, juggle the places luvvery jubbly. And chucks never wins. ;)

Wykie, I think yours is simpler to enter but maybe not to run. But because it's simpler to enter, people will enter.

The IMPROVED version is bound to yield a low score. I know the object is to have a better score than other participants but to win with won 2 lost 10 looks a bit odd. It is a very long shot to predict the score correctly. It's barely better than 1 in 3 chance to predict the result. Too tough.

11 entries so far with just over 1 day till it starts, so get your entries in now and there is no reason why you can't take part in both.

Predicting the correct score is pretty tough but it's a lot easier to do in football than most other sports.

Zonnebloem here is my theory on the scoring system,

You say to predict a correct score is about 1 in 10, I disagree.

Take Bradford v Tranmere for example.

Firstly you predict who you think will win and for arguements sake lets say Bradford.

So you are going to predict a score which shows Bradford are the winner which if correct you will get 1 point.

The next question is what score will Bradford win by? Realistically the most common scores are 1-0, 2-0 & 2-1 anything above that is going to hard to predict (ie 5-4 last season). So really once you have picked who you think will win you have a 1 in 3 chance of getting the correct score if the game isn't a goal fest because by picking who is going to win you have eliminated various scores.

Same with a draw, if you think the game is going to be a draw then the most common draws are 0-0, 1-1 & 2-2 anything above is relatively rare.

This is the reason 3 points is more than enough for predicting the correct score.

Take a look at last week.

All but 1 game (Swindon v Bournemouth) fell within the average score for the correct prediction, so by using the rule detailed above if you predicted the correct winner you would of had a 3 to 1 chance of the correct result by going with my method.

Zonnebloem would you agree with this?

12 Entries so far, not bad.

Just posting this as a quick reminder.

If anyone else wants to join the first game kicks off at 12:30 so you have 2 hours.

Failing that you will miss out on the first game but can still enter before 3pm to predict the majority of todays fixtures.
