How does the tie-breaker question work, Thorney? 3 points, 2 points or what for what?

How does the tie-breaker question work, Thorney? 3 points, 2 points or what for what?

If 2 people have the same points the one who gets closest to the tie breaker finishes above the other players on the same points.

So if 3 people all have the same points and are all up for promotion, the two closest to the tie breaker will be promoted.

Is there anyway we can PM the predictions for you to put up after the event?? I've noticed that the same faces are leaving their predictions to the last minute every week to gauge what their rivals are doing. Hardly in the spirit of the game is it??

You want to do that I can accept entries in that way but you are free to edit your predictions up to kick off so you can post a load of garbage then as long as you change them before kick off to the predictions you want they will be accepted.

That's another point I wanted to make. The "post edited on" message seems to have disappeared on edited posts. I hope this isn't leading to abuse of the prediction League. There does seem to have been certain contestants doing better than their usual knowledge of the game would dictate quite recently.

I think PMing you the predictions to be in by say...0900hrs on the day of the match is the fairest way to do it. You could then post them and lock the post, leaving no chance of any shennenigans.

See...I've just edited this more than five minutes having elapsed.

The edit by only appears after a time limit of 5 min. If you modify a post within 5 min of posting it no message come up, but if you modify your post after you will be found out.

That used to be the case. The edit message doesn't appear to come up at all now. I've deffo edited posts outside the five minute limit recently and not got the Edited On message. It's been like that a couple of weeks now.

See the posting above yours for conformation.

I'll look into it and find out whats happening, in the meantime I'm going to move these posts to a separate thread so it is easier to work out the scores on saturday and to keep the prediction thread for predictions only.

Okily dokily. I think you'll find that the Prediction League as almost certainly been abused because of this glitch.

Hey this is a bit fun, well I least I thought it was. Not sure how copying what other people have posted works. if they get it wrong so do you:eek:

I post mine when I get time. Never take too much notice of what anybody else has predicted either. I wouldn't know my rivals either, lol

I hope none of that is directed at me? Some of us are just bone idol lazy t***s that do everything at the last minute. Indeed, some of us leave it that long they don't post at all and get eliminated from the competition(see that pick a team to win this week thingymibob)!!!

There might be a point to what you're saying if you need 'X' amount of points to win the whole thing in the last week of the season, but why go against your original choice and change it when there's 30 odd games to go???

Misen I've not so much as given anyone elses predictions a second glance, football geniuses don't need to.

Anyways, does it really matter? As someone has already said, it's supposed to be a bit of fun!!!

Oh, hold on, I've just realised there's two leagues and relegation to consider, so you might have a point after all. Thankfully though that's something that doesn't affect me at this moment in time. :p :D

I've led a sheltered life this last couple of decades. It would never even have crossed my mind that people, in an attempt to cheat, would look at my predictions and copy them to gain league positions in a cost-free, prize-free, fun thing like a prediction league, or that my predictions would somehow make their predictions any better come Saturday.

Whatever I write, or anybody else writes as predictions, the results on Saturday will be what they are. That could be 12 home wins or 12 away wins. Who Knows?

OK, how about this theory? There are nearly always more home wins than anything else, so just put all home wins and you'll not do too badly. But beware of MI6 listening in just in case they win the prize fund of a barrel of f'kall.

The league table is as good a guide as you get and, in this league, is a crap guide to Saturday form. Nothing is predictable. Results depend on a ref's decision, a keeper's save, a goal post, the run of the ball, a missed sitter, a free-kick, a disputed penalty. Not bleedin espionnage on this site.

As for retrospective edits. I would HATE to be found out cheating on a meaningless (ultimately) fun competition. Surely nobody would resort to THRUSH tactics to topple UNCLE when world domination is not even remotely at stake?

No more conspiracy theories please.

It gives me headache to even try to think down to cheat theories in Thorney's prediction league. When I make my predictions, the last thing I would consider consulting is other folks' predictions. I just blast 'em down with a view to the league table.

Oh shit! Dave says Pawel Abbott won't score. He therefore WILL NOT score, so I'll have to change my mind. Kidding.

PS: Thorney. Get that fantasy football league updated! It appears to be dying. Maybe after mid-November I could learn about those $ signs in your Excel tables and help. Until mid-November, I'm under severe work pressure. Then, I hope to be in Ingerlurnd over Christmas.

Don't let it bother ya mate, just kids who can't take the fact that they aren't winning so look to blame others for their own shortcomings;),
Same sort of kids who used to take their ball home when they were losing on the Green, no doubt:p!
BTW, If i was Thorney I'd just scrap the whole thing, it's only supposed to be a bit of fun at the end of the dayFFS:mad:!

I've already told you it will be done on friday, you've waited 3 weeks, 2 more days won't hurt.
Plus I've said it before and I'll say it again, I do it in my own time when I have time, I never promised weekly updates, just updates when I could provide them it was set out from the start.

I don't mean to be picky Thorney, but as the Prediction League is mainly based on predicting football results, don't you think 3 points for guessing the size of the crowd at VP is a bit on the high side? It took me years to acquire my football genius status, so to see all the hard work and hard earned football geniusneses'sssses that has gone into earning three points from three games negated by a lucky guess on the size of the bleedin' crowd at VP by inferior rivals is simply heartbreaking.

Btw, so far so good for your lads. The Colts lead 21-7 at HT. Manning has three TDs from just four possessions, one of which came after a 17 play drive. Anyone reading that might think Brady has been suffering, but he's thrown a perfect 10 from 10. The problem is the Pats defence has been decimated by injury, and relying on the few remaining starters every play is beginning to take it's toll. I hope I'm wrong, but I expect the Colts to run out comfortable winners. :(

I'm sure you can find a way round this. For example by waiting till the very last minute to make your predictions every week so you can see what your main rivals have predicted??

Does it really matter if they do or not? If they're pathetic enough to do something like that in a free competition then let them.

Easy, Easy, Easy! and we've the Texans next week:D

Pity they can't do it when it matters in the play-offs though:rolleyes:

How's your lot doing, I can't remember if it's the raiders or the bears you nailed your colours to.

With regards to the attendance guessing, it's just to keep some variation in the bonus questions nothing more.

Aaaaah, the 'last' minute, I see. I'm pretty certain the other 'latees' involved have good excuses, although misen I don't think they even need one. After all somebody has to go last, and even if they haven't got an excuse, at this early stage I still don't see that it matters. The thing is, if they copy the leaders they are still going to be behind those they are copying off, and after seeing someone elses selections and then changing theirs they lose out if their original selection ends up being correct. Admittedly stuff like forcasting the crowd is a bit different, if everybody says 5,000 and you think 10,000 then your going to have second thoughts, but predicting a result you have either win, lose or draw, and you're going to think yourself a right pillock if you change your mind because of someone else and your original choice ends up being correct.

I'd let it lie Chuck, honestly, without editing the results after the event there is absolutely nothing to gain.

Thorney, two wins on the bounce took them to a .500 average for the first time since 1993!!! However, subsequent wins against Detroit and New Orleans takes them to 5-3 and sees them sitting pretty at the top of the NFC East two games clear of Detroit, and with a 3-0 record against teams in the division, a win against a poor 49ers team on sunday could well wrap up the divisional title.

Winning the SB might just be beyond them this season, but rookie QB Kyle Orton is learning quickly and improving all the time and they'll definitely be worth a punt next season.

I'm not going to change the way entries are made, the thread will be locked at the kick off of the first game, if people feel they have to cheat in a game where nothing is won they will be excluded from the game if caught. If people want to wait till 2.55pm to enter their fixtures it is up to them and the end of the day it's just a bit of fun, nothing more nothing less.

Sorry I know this is off topic,

I'd have to say they should make the Play-offs as the NFC North is a horrible division and I'll be suprised if anyone other than the Bears finish with a winning record.

As for the big one, Carolina look a good bet along with Seattle, the Giants and Falcons from the NFC.

In the AFC it's a bit more wide open with the Colts, Bengals, Steelers, Broncos, Chiefs, Chargers and lets not forget New England all in with a shout of the honours.

My prediction for what it's worth will see the Colts v the Panthers in Detroit come February;)
