A much improved performance by England tonight against a quality Polish side.
I cant help but think that the performance was more by accident than engineering though.
It proved tonight that Lampard & Gerrard cannot play together in the middle, its one or the other!
Ledley King did the defensive role that SG & FL are not disciplined enough to do.
I also think that the absence of Beckham & Gerrard (who both are always looking to play the 50 yard killer ball) made us play the ball from the back through the midfield which brought the best out of our players.
If Beckham plays he's got to be on the right & told to stay there!
As for Sven, I still think he's a fake who's inherited the best set of England players since 1970, in a good managers hands this team would WIN things, in Sven's we'll get knocked out in the final stages!

Is the Lamps/Stevie G thing in the same team going to be the new toptable FACT?

Of course they both can, why on earth would anyone want to dropone of two World Class midfielders? Gerrard being the most versatile of the two will play the so called holding role and he'll play it well. He's played defensive midfield for Liverpool. For fecks sake he played the second half and Extra time of the Champions League Final at Right back and didn't look out of place. Leaving Lamps to just carry on doing what he does, getting forrard and scoring.

Were lucky to have Ledley King, but he'll be second fiddle in both roles he plays so well. Which is a pity, because he has never ever let us down. But when you have the likes of King and Alan Smith in the squad it gives extra options and extra cover.

Blimey Parrot, I'd love to hear your comments should England actually win the world cup, as you still tried to explain how inept Sven is. Let's face it, even with the present England players, we do not have the best squad in the world.
Sven's done what he's paid to do.
You and the other Sven haters can moan as much as you like. Me, I'm off to celebrate England topping the group and qualifying for the world cup finals.

I never said England had the best side in the World BIN, read my post correctly.
For £4 million a year we could have the best manger in the World though!
If Sven had done what he was paid to do we'd have another trophy in the England cabinet by now wouldn't we?
I will be cheering England on next summer, not Sven & I hope he proofs me wrong but some how i think we'll get a touch of the "Groundhog days", ie out in the final stages.
Then this good group of England players will break up without winning owt & we'll be back in the football wilderness while Sven walks of laughing to himself that he kidded so many;)
BTW Chucks, your obsession with the so-called "Top table" is becoming slightly embaressing, get a life mate!

Does it?

Dont think so mate, I said in my post that SG & FL couldn't play in the MIDDLE together, not in the same team.
In fact my point was that we played better with a natural defensive holding player if you care to to a look;)

I remember when Keegan got the England job, I was so happy. I thought now we really do have a man who can lead England to victory. How wrong I was, he was useless, and that defeat against Germany at Wembley was HUMILIATING. More humiliating than any result under Sven. You don't get a more passionate manager than Keegan.

The problem is that WHOEVER is the England manager is always going to have to take crap from the media and everyone else. In the real world I just think it is impossible to create a team and a team spirit when the team spends so little time together. How does a manager get to know his players if he can't play them, and who has the club manager screaming that they can only play them for 45 minutes and in friendlies they have to play with kid gloves, incase one of them gets a knock. I think the whole national team thing is becoming outdated anyway.
Could we have won Euro 2004? Yes we could, but once again injuries, egos, penalites didn't go our way. They never seem to go England's way, except in 66 when NOBODY expected England to win it (so I'm told :) )
As I've posted on the Gent, the players who play for England seem to have confidence in Sven, none of them are running to the press moaning. They seem to have the respect, and that's half the battle psychologically for any team. I hope that the Denmark and N. Ireland results have brought a few truths home, especially for nancy boy Beckham, especially last night's performance without him mincing about in midfield. Sven is a very intelligent man. I'm sure he's aware of what needs to be done. When he walks from England, probably after the summer, he's going to walk into one of the best club jobs in the world. He is a good manager, I really can't think of ONE Englishman who is better than him. (I'd like to think Jagger could do it ten years from now) The only man I would be happy to replace Sven right now would be Jose from Chelsea.
I'd like to think that Sven will replicate his early success in next summer's finals. Remember when he first arrived, who would have thought we would have won that group, it looked like Finland were heading for 2nd place, and that amazing 1-5 victory over our deadliest rivals, oh and WE did shut those argies up didn't we. If Sven fails to get us into the last 8, then I will agree and admit that he is sh*t. It's in that last 8 where the men are seperated from the boys.
Do I believe that England are good enough to win the World Cup? Sure.
Do I believe they will? Not really, if I'm honest.
I'll be happy if they beat Norway (if they qualify) and Sweden along the way, oh and maybe Italy, Brazil, Germany, Argentina and anyone else who gets in our way.

I think you'd look good in a Lazio shirt Stoodly. Are you off to Tromsų to watch Roma?

Spot on BiN. There is not one word of that which isn't 100% true.

We are one of the Worlds top eight teams, no more than that. When It comes to the Quarter Finals in Germany. I'm certain we will be there, but to say we are better than that is wrong. We might get the rub of the green we are overdue and go further, but to say we have the squad to nail on the semis and beyond but not the manager, is quite frankly bollocks. We will go to Germany the same as the last two world cups before it, one of the sides capable of going all the way. Not THE best squad or with THE best players but with one in with a shout. I am more confident having Sven as part of that than not.

My personal thoughts on Sven's next stop is that it'll be Manchester United and that'll be sooner rather than later, which IMHO is bad news for supporters of the National Team.
