For all the Sven bashers that use Greece as an example of what having a shouty pointy manager can do, that's one avenue closed for you. They're out of the World Cup at the qualifying stage.

Aye so are Denmark who beat us in a two bob friendly.
At least when the World Cup comes round they can get the Euro Cup out of the cabinet and remember the good times.

Correct me if Im wrong but in the last 43 years only 4 England managers have taken us through the qualifying rounds into the world cup finals. Sven has done it twice and no one has done it more than him. Hes been manager for only 4 years.
Is this the same manager our fellow posters want to sack and replace with Alan Curbishley

Yes well my point Is i'd have rather have Won Portugal 2004, then miss out on the World Cup, than get to the World Cup & get knocked out by the first decent side we face after the group stages:mad:

Nobody worth their salt would even see the Euros as anything like the World Cup. It's the League Cup at the side of the FA Cup if you like. It'd be nice to win the Euros, but at the side of the World Cup it's rhubarb. It's like saying you'd rather win the school sports day egg and spoon race instead of being one of five or so folk in with a chance of winning the 1500 metres at the Olympics.

Bobby Robson qualified us twice. However both times it was by the skin of our teeth. However he got us to the semis on foreign soil. But he also failed to get us to Euro84

I agree Chuckle but at least the Greeks can say they've won a major tournament (alebit with a poor team) in living memory!
