View Full Version : Do you think a players team affects their chances for England?
I talked about it on the other thread and it's been part of a conversation with some mates but I would like to know what everyone else thinks.
Do you think the team a player plays for affects their chances of playing for England?
Personally I do, I think that if Bent was playing for Liverpool in the form he is currently in this season he would be starting tomorrow, but because Crouch plays for Liverpool and even though Liverpool have only scored 4 goals this season, Crouch will end up with the starting place tomorrow.
I think Danny Murphy being ignored for Alan Smith is another good example.

And Russell Howarth has no chance whatsoever.

Eggzaclee what I thought when I saw Danny Murphys comments re: Bent. Murphy would be well in contention himsen if he still played for a "big" club.

I think Bent or Defoe would have added alot more to the game today...Owen was left really as the Lone striker.. Shame...:(

It's irrelevant, because he picked Crouch and he played well.

Whats the obsession with Bent?
He's a one season wonder lads, Andy Johnson springs to mind......as does Phillips and Beattie before him.....its one thing have a good start to the season for an unfancied club, but making the leap to international football is another!! Pity we don't do the England A team thing anymore, it was ideal for 2nd rate wanabee players to prove folk like me wrong.....:D

KB, I'd bet a months wage, no make that a years salary, that all these folk banging on about Bent haven't even seen him play. He's there because he's better than Heskey and Because Johnson couldn't get a move back to the Premiership.
If England go for the Four Strikers Option for Germany, it'll be and rightly so; Owen, Rooney, Defoe and Crouch. I'd also take Alan Smith because of his versitility. Bent will still be in the frame but I bet he won't have even doubled his goals tally that he's on now.

You mean his 8 goals tobig birds none?????
How many did crouch get last term 13.... I bet you Chuckles he doesnt get that again!!!
BTW ive seen Bent i think 3 times now...Seen Crouch 6 now and not once have i seen him actually do anything that any bottom half of the table could do...
He couldnt threaten an empty net ffs....
Oh yes KB, I would pick Bent infront of Crouch because at least he is a one off...Cropuch isnt even that...
Is it really hard to understand why people would want an inform striker to play infront of a piss poor one?????
Maybe you two have been watching too much McPlop football... Even Sutton ffs is a better option than Crouch...
