View Full Version : Lawn's Mexico trip
So now we know.
According to the T&A MarK Lawn is "not happy" about having to go to Mexico and miss City's 2 friendly games in Scotland.
We are also informed that "this academy (in Mexico) is not to look for players but a commercial venture to brand Bradford City's name over there"
We can no doubt expect all the sports shops in Mexico City to bin all their Man U, Real Madrid, Chelsea kits etc and place a massive order for City's new home kit.
There I was thinking that the jigsaw gradually revealing next season's kit was just covering up the incompetence in not ordering supplies early enough to meet the Summer rush in the City shop whereas in fact it was that the whole of the Chinese production line has been churning out claret and amber striped shirts to satisfy the Mexican demand.
Even so I'm still not sure how (according to Lawn) that "this could earn us money" although I'm sure Surridge would benefit.
Personally I still think it is all B*lox

What do you mean BWWB? Perhaps Surridge had run out of claret and Amber material making that massive order for Claret & Amber sombrero's which are making their way from the Port of Qingdao to Mexico City as we speak.
Unfortunately after the "Primark Uncovered" programme it has now been discovered that Surridge are also under paying their masses of asian "Sweat shop" staff in one of the world most poorest regions, i.e Frizinghall.

Have Surridge gone into the heroin market then?
Page 21 of the T&A has "My Perfect Weekend" this week featuring David Baldwin.
"...watch City on Saturday...pint in Leeds Sat evening...read Mail on Sunday...GO FOR WALK IN LISTER PARK...its important to wind down before going back to work on Monday" Perhaps not Surridge then Garlic Breath.

No wonder his foreheed was sweating a little when I saw him this aft.:)
Of course the master plan may be to steal the claret & amber sombrero's from Mexico, import them illegally to avoid VAT, and then sell them for a monstrous profit behind the toilets in Lister Park.

So that's the excuse you gave the cops when you were arrested for hanging around the toilets in Lister Park with your Sombrero on?
I wonder if they are selling those "Billy Not Willy" hats inside the toilets? :elvis:

Last week Lawn was saying they were going to Mexico to explore possibilities due to the poor standard of players sent over by Montegnee!!!
Today he says its not about looking for players but opportunities for branding and commercial opportunities. A total about turn about the trip. I think he realised he'd put his foot in it with the Montegnee thing as everyone knew it was said that the project wouldn't bear fruit until at least the 3rd year. This was stated at the beginning yet heres Lawn 9 months later moaning about the standard of players being sent over.
Paul Topping has been on here and been totally honest and open in Q & A sessions and in interviews with C&B members. We've heard far more about the partnership from him than we ever have from Mr Lawn so what should we believe?
I'm thankful for his input in City but he comes across as a 'publicity junkie' trying to play outside his league. We're a 4th Division club for gods sake and although i welcome his positivity and hope this venture goes as well as he thinks it might, excuse me for being a bit skeptical and as said above ,i don't think Real Madrid etc will be quaking in their boots at the thought of competing with the BCFC brand

Aside from having the habit of not erring on caution before opening said mouth, you do have to admit that ML has put serious money into City and with DB have turned around the commercial activity at VP, which was pretty minimal previously as there was no one there to run that side (JR preferring the shadows).
If the club have been invited out to Mexico with costs paid, well then it would come across as short sighted and maybe fekin rude not to go - it will do no harm to have some recognition on a different continent.
I have refrained from alcohol tonight which you may be able to detect.

If Mr Lawn, Mr Baldwin (or for that matter Mr Blair) want a freebie holiday in Mexico then fair enough but even the Wise(y) amongst us must have some doubt as to the purpose of the trip.
To believe that there is someone rich enough to pay for a couple of blokes to travel thousands of miles to discuss a potential commercial tie up with an obscure 4th division side in Northern England is pushing credibility a bit far.
To get to us the Mexican must have dismissed giants such as Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Barnsley, Port Vale, Cheltenham, MK Dons etc as he made his way down to 78th in the English League even presuming he had not thought about Italy, Spain, Columbia, Brazil and USA etc.

I can't believe how much shit ML and DB get on here from supporters! :(
OK MLs a gobshite but theres no denying things have Improved for the better since he walked through the door at VP.
He may be an obnoxious twat sometimes but he knows how to run a successful business if nowt else.
Everyone moans about JR being too publicity shy but now we have a chairman willing to talk to the press at every opportunity, people still moan!
I suppose its a case of your dammed If you do and dammed if you dont!!!

I agree Parrot nothing ventued nothing gained. If something good that increases revenue for City then good - if not what have we lost.

Maybe the invite came about becuase of M Ellis connections in the USA ? - just a guess - it's a small world in many cases and networking does pay dividends sometimes.
I don't doubt the trip was expenses paid by the mexicans - why should we?

Its just the fact that he totally contradicted himself in 2 T&A articles about the sub standard quality of players over from Montegnee being one of the reasons for the Mexican trip then a week later its all about branding and giving the City brand a higher profile.
I don't have a problem with him going as i said, i hope its a massive success but at least get your story right for the reasons of the trip

Lawn's biggest problem is he talks too much. He has the club at heart and has lots of ideas. Until those ideas get into the public domain, he'd be best keeping quiet a lot of the time.
I reckon he just wants to look popular, when sometimes it makes him less popular with fans.

I reckon most City fans only give a shit about what's happening when the season starts and the wins start coming!

Talk is cheap....the fat controller said a lot of things and mot of the time he delivered on them!!! If ML delivers us a promotion we will hapily cheer him as he parades round the pitch, we will then cut him a bit of slack once he has delivered - as we did with GR!
I suppose really the problem is he wears his heart on his sleeve amd sometimes should just step back and engage his brain beforE engages his mouth!

No. But it means if it does go wrong, there's less fallback.
However, and here's some famous last words, but I can't see it going wrong at the moment under JR and ML.
