We definetly need another striker in the squad - Dale obviously using some of their play off funds for this one - I can't see that Boulding has much more time to make a decision, with pre season underway most clubs would want a yes/no - expect another surprise then - maybe a loan striker and keeper to keep the wage bill under control.

Thats how it looks to me as well reading Maccas comments

have no fear - willy's here! Topp and Thorne to be a winning combo in my eyes this year! Expect Topp to have second season syndrome - whereby a foreigner has adequately settled in a region and starts to find form (like christiano ronaldo but not as effective).

I reckon topp will bag more than 10 this year, hopefully more than 15, if we can get 35 from our front two that will set us up nicely for promotion.

Need fourth striker to compete and cover, ideally with a young prem/championship pacey kid to fit the bill (think jermaine defoe going to bournmouth all those years ago rather than moses ashikodi)

More worrying for me is the lack of a keeper, but i'm sure stu has another scott loach up his sleeve.

Hopefully the difference this year will be the midfield --
If they can create chances -- the forwards will do well

another rumour i heard was there will be 3 more signings before the season starts - 2 loans and another freebie.

Does that include Densmore as cover at RB

And all the messages from Bullock et al is that they will be required to chip in with a few goals themselves. Our promotion season saw Beagrie get 16 goals (if memory serves me correctly) - that helped support what Mills and Blake were doing and gave us the platform to achieve promotion.

At the end of the day spending £60k on a player like Shaw is quite a big risk. Who knows whether or not he'll perform in League Two? I'm guessing we've offered Boulding and Beckett pretty heafty deals. I'd say Thorne and Topp would come ahead of Shaw in the pecking order anyway, so why spend that amount of money on someone who probably wouldn't be first choice?

We'll see how well he does for Rochdale this season, and whether or not we made the right choice. I can't see Rochdale doing as well as last season anyway, especially now they've offloaded Perkins!

It's a shame we've missed out, but as was already stated, 60k is a lot of money for an unproven player, especially considering we already have one such player on the books already in Willy Topp. A balance is needed of promising and experienced players.

The reliable sauce of Yen strikes again
24 year old forward Peter Thompson from Linfield is being chased by Stuart.
Shaw isn't fit to lace this guys boots

Haven't Linfield just turned down a fee from Kilmarnock or someone?

Haven't Linfield just turned down a fee from Kilmarnock or someone?

It was from us, we offered a pint of lager and a packet of pork scratchings and Baz Conlon.

Unfortunately they didn't want him

There's being little interest shown in Thompson from England so far, however within the next twelve months they'll be queuing.
Gretna (before they bust) and Killie have made bids for him, Killie have refused to go more than 60k.
If Stuart can persuade Jnr and Mr Lawn to invest in 80k plus 50% sell on clause, he'll be our man.
This guy's good, the Irish Manager Worthington is fair pleading with Thommo to play in England, and with Big Bazza the Irish comedian and beer guzzler here, then he's a ready made drinking partner haha

You've got it wrong, the deal was going ahead but Fat Baz ate the Pork Scratchings & drank the lager on the ferry.

It says here that Kilmarnock gave a take it or leave it offer of 150,000, which was turned down.

The actual cash offer was just above 50k, the 150k was subject to appearances and goals scored.

Although all this could be just pie in the sky if the board don't want to back Stu's judgement on this.
It's interesting to note in the article in the T&A that City refused to meet the 60k asking price for Shaw, not couldn't afford it as sometimes we've being quoted in the past.

Thoughts from an old fella--------- I reckon that Thorney will think all his birthdays have come at once this season with the improved supply of ball and opportunities he will get from our new engine room in the midfield. Control the midfield and you win matches. Cheers.

It wouldnt be funnu any more if this Pikey Kid Thompson turned out to be Jacko's under wraps new strike target....

"Lincoln manager Peter Jackson is keen to add a new striker to his squad but is keeping the identity of his top target under wraps.
Jackson has already held preliminary talks with the forward but does not want to reveal any names for fear that it will alert other clubs to his availability.
The Imps boss wants to increase his attacking options and believes the wait will be worth it if the player decides to sign.
"The player I want to bring in has a couple of clubs after him, but believe me, if we get him he would be a terrific addition,"
