Eddie Johnson turned up at Dario Gradi’s door to plead for a trial with Crewe, the League One club revealed.
Johnson, pictured, who was released by City in May, has been given two weeks to prove himself as a striker in his third stint at Gresty Road.
Crewe boss Steve Holland said: “We sat down earlier in the summer and discussed the possibility of bringing Eddie back. We didn’t think it would be a good idea because he has had two chances here previously and had not taken them.
“Eddie then made an unprecedented trip to see (technical director) Dario at his house to plead for another chance. There was a willingness from him to put his wrongs right.”
When Eddie knocked on Dario's door luckily it was caught on CCTV... http://www.grapheine.com/classiktv/index.php?module=see&lang=uk&code=424df80b5fe20c6f43d2e75b6b19eb44
