Netherlands 1 Italy 0
Unless an Italian player was hidden off camera, I've never seen a more obvious off-side. OK, NL have dominated possession but this is normal in an Italian match.

Deffo offside, how can Panucci have been "active"? He was on his arse ffs.
That said, Italy played into Holland's hands and just weren't at the races at the back. Holland were better than expected and I can see them going though with Romania. So both World Cup finalist don't get out of their group! Great stuff, you've gotta love the Euros :)

:flame:The offside rule is so simple these days:flame:
Chairman of Austria's refereeing commission Gerhard Kapl backed the decision by Swedish referee Peter Frojdfeldt and said it was "100% correct, without any doubt".
Kapl pointed out that article 11.4.1. of the refereeing code stipulated that "an opposing player cannot be offside when one of the last two defenders has left the field of play".
He explained the rule was brought in to stop players deliberately stepping off the field of play to make an opponent offside.
But the Azzurri would argue that Panucci was off the field because he had been caught by keeper Gianluigi Buffon as he tried to meet a cross just before the goal.
Van Nistelrooy looked at the linesman before reeling off to celebrate after the goal stood, while Netherlands team-mate Dirk Kuyt said he thought the goal was offside.

Pannuci was behind the goal line therefore not on the field of play so how could he have played him onside?
What next?
Subs warming up playing people onside?
He was active by the laws of the game.
The players technically need the refs permission to leave the field of play and Pannuci never got that so he was technically still active.
It's like a striker couldn't stand behind the oppo's goal line all game and then scamper onto the field of play to round the keeper on his own whenever the ball was booted up to him from defence... he never had express directive to leave the field of play from the ref so technically he was still on the field of play and would be judged offside even though he's not on the field.
It would have been miraculous but if Panucci had got off his arse and blocked the ball on the line then he would have legitimately saved the goal.

Think the linesman was applying this rule or just cocked up and was saved by the guy on the touchline?
