Liverpool still needing to add a world class second striker to their squad!!
Lunacy letting Crouch go imo, as if Torres gets injured they have no options upfront who can score & top drawer forwards dont come cheap and dont like the bench - as Crouch has proved!!

Well, the addition of Robbie Keane solves the striker problem & today Liverpool & Villa have agreed a £17.5m + steve Finnan for Gareth Barry.
Now they can set about solving their winger problems!!

Carson has gone to WBA so I'm guessing they won't be very happy about that.
Sorry I didn't see the date of th original message. jump:

I watched the report on this last night on skysports news & i cant see Barry being too pleased at all. If Liverpool have come up with the money and Barry isnt happy at Villa I dont see why ONeil is making him see out his contract - surely a unhappy player is disruptive?

I'm pleased that for once, a club has stood and refused to be bullied into a move by either a player and his agent and another club.
I can't understand why Benitez isn't being charged for tapping the player up.
Randy Lerner & O'Neill have shown plenty of backbone that they won't be dictated to by a supposed bigger club. The way Liverpool do business these days would have Shanks & Paisley turning in their graves.
Why doesn't he persist and use his supposed coaching skills to get the best out of a similar player Xavi Alonso!!! a champion at Euro 08 or is it really Gerrard who picks the team?
Finally, if he wants Barry so much, pay the asking price instead of offering £1 million less!!! Whats £1 million if he helps Liverpool break the top 3 monopoly?

?
Because its Barry that wants to leave. He is a quality player in the latter stages of his career and wants Champions League football. False promises of improvement in the squad from ONeil & the Villa board have clearly taken there toll. I dont think you can blame him for wanting to leave - take him out of their team and they are lower mid-table under Oneil imo!

He never mentioned anything about wanting to leave until Gerrard & Benitez blabbed to the press how they'd love to see him play for Liverpool. He seemed happy enough entering a testimonial year also.

If this saga ends with Barry going to the Reds everyone's a winner, Liverpool get the best and now first choice two England Centre Midfielders (which having them play together week in week out will also benefit England) to compliment Fenando and Robbie who now make up the most lethal strike partnership in the Premier League. And the 18M Villa recieve will be priceless to a mansger of O'Niells talents who with his eye for a player will spend it wisely to elevate Villa above the rest of the leading pack looking to gatecrash the top 4. Villa playing silly buggers won't benefit anyone, which is why I would hope Barry is a Reds player by the kick off.
Mind you if Liverpool have to wait whilst January for Barry; "having to make do with Alonso" isn't a bad position to be in now is it??
Now if only Liverpool had the balls to offer the Villa manager the same route to Anfield, then the long awaited title would be nailed on!

Thats what i don't understand Chucks, i think Alonso is one of the best passers in Europe and with 2 runners like Keane & Torres, he seems perfect.
Thats why i wondered if its Gerrard wanting his mate there .

Strange how when Liverpool wanted Robbie Keane they were straight in and out and stumped up the over £20,000,000 straight away, yet this Barry saga is going on from one season to the next. Suggests to me that they're not as keen as they say they are, especially as he will join Liverpool and go straight into the Prem / CL season if he goes soon, if not, and he leaves end of August, then its hard for him to gel quickly which cant be good for Liverpool.
