The 16 year old who had his teeth broken by Barton was awarded £2,500 - surely they could have made him hand over his Rolex as extra compo....................

There is no way on earth Newcastle will sack him. Keegan will do his 'cuddly Kevin arm round the shoulder' act as soon as he's released. Keegan has already stated that he thinks Barton can be one of the best midfielders in the country. A couple of the lads i spoke to at work about it have no sympathy and think he's a twat, one of them has even given up his season ticket for the first time in 26 seasons such is his disgust at Barton and a few of the other Newcastle players of recent years. As he says, it's £700 for his season ticket which swallows up nearly one months worth of his spare cash after he's paid his mortgage, bills etc and he then sees Toon players acting like shits when they are on 50 grand per week. Players like Barton are a disgrace.

But we all know that if Newcastle sack him, once he's done his time some other club will step in and offer him a contract...............Lee Hughes?????
Not saying its right but principles go out of the window where a million pound footballer is concerned

What should actually happen is the FA should withold his playing regisitration for "bringing football into disrepute" or something like that!! Then these wanners who have attitude problems like barton might think twice...but then again i dont think barton is capable of thinking!!

Agree re the FA but then Barton would get an expensive lawyer on the case to claim restraint of trade!!!!

Come on Tony, he's a known trouble maker with a history of violence. He's even got another case pending for his assault on a teammate at Man City.
Putting a cigar out in a kids eye is just high jinks then is it? Breaking a teammates eye socket?
You or me and we'd have been sent down long before he has.

Depends which side of the fence you sit on here. I personally believe he has difficult issues he needs to resolve and Sporting Chance clinic are helping him with that. It might be easier to say he's a thug and deserves everything coming to him.
This is the problem with football for kids like Barton though, it serves to make the vulnerable even more so - look at Gazza now.
I don't think they will sack him as arguably he is a marketable asset even with a criminal record, I also hope someone puts him back on the straight and narrow. There are plenty of near-miss cases that we have only found out the real story after they have finished football - Adams, Merson, Best to name 3 high-profile ones. Lets hope Barton's life isn't ruined because he kept bad company or has never had the guidance he needs.

The thing is Barton has been sentenced for his crime and he will do his punishment as the law has deemed fit.
He will learn his lesson in prison as it will shock him to the very core not having the luxuries he has become accustomed to.
Nobody cried out for Pennant's blood or Cantona's for that matter after the "Kung Fu" incident. Its because Barton has the reputation and that has followed him on and off the pitch most of his playing career, whether he is behaved or not.
He will have paid his debt to society once released and that should be the end of it.

Maybe one day he will snap out of it and get himself together just like Bobby Campbell did. We gave Campbell a last chance and the rest is history.

I really dont think so. 2 Months inside will make him see his error of ways. Especially if he is treated the same as Lee Hughes was in prison by his fellow inmates
