Great defensive display in Florence earns the Scottish giants a place in the final against the deadly Zenit St Petersberg in Manchester.

Carlos Cuellar and David Weir were brilliant at the back in another gritty and determined display by Rangers.

So we now have a Russian team coming to England to play a Scottish team while two English teams are going to Russia to play in the Champions League final....

Surely somethings wrong there???

GOOD LUCK RANGERS jump:

As Andy Townsend said last night - the Gers reaching the UEFA cup final is a much greater achievement than Man Yoo or Chelsea reaching the champs league final....
Great team performance, not one superstar in the team, but a team of grafters - Big Walts first full season back in charge and they're on course for a quadrouple!!

I won't have fook all chance of getting a ticket but i'll be off to Manchester on the 14th if only to soak up the atmosphere!!

No it's not Matty....

Celtic Porto and many other smaller teams reach this final year in year out..

It is a great achievement but it is only the UEFA and Zeniths final place is by far a biger achievement then the Gers...

Fiorentina lost the game rather than Gers winning it....

WELL DONE yes but come come Matt.. Take your Rangers blinkers off eh!!!!

Rangers fans have been urged not to travel to Manchester for the UEFA Cup final unless they have a ticket for the match.
Police in the city also called on supporters to create a "carnival atmosphere" ahead of the game on May 14, as they announced details of a major policing operation.
Walter Smith's side will play Zenit St Petersburg at the City of Manchester stadium after their thrilling penalty shootout victory over Fiorentina in Italy.
Their Russian opponents made it to the final with an impressive 5-1 aggregate win over German giants Bayern Munich.
The final will be played in front of 44,000 supporters at the ground but up to 100,000 are expected to try to make their way to Manchester.
Two 'fan zones' will be set up in the city centre but will only be open to those with match tickets - as will several bars and pubs.
There will also be a heavy police presence around the ground to prevent ticketless fans from getting close to the stadium.
Chief Superintendent Gerry Donnellan, of Greater Manchester Police and commander for the fixture, said he was confident that Manchester would be able to cope with hosting the event.
He said: "We are keen to stress that football fans should only come to Manchester if they have a valid ticket for the match.
"Our planning is underpinned by a desire for all fans with tickets to come to Manchester to enjoy the atmosphere and the game - they will get a genuine warm reception.
"I hope the match will be an enjoyable event for everyone who attends and that a carnival atmosphere will be created by the genuine supporters, which will demonstrate all that is good about the game in the United Kingdom.
"There are two fantastic teams hoping to get their hands on a major European trophy and we are thrilled at having been chosen to host such an exciting fixture."
Supporters were also warned they may struggle to find accommodation unless they have already done so.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester's tourist board said rooms in the city had been reserved for some time.
He added: "Hotels have obviously been inundated with calls this morning but they have been booked up for weeks."

Hope Rangers win, and if I were a fan I'd be getting across to Manchester for the atmosphere. The stadium should be full of gers fans as the Russians won't sell their full allocation.

A great achievement for The Huns, it has to be said. Likewise if they win the lot their achievement at being the second club in Scotland to win a quadruple (not THE quadruple I hasten to add) hot on the heels of being the second club in Scotland to win nine in a row will be a worthy of praise. That said, I'm sure Zenit will do to them what they did to Bayern t'other night and the Hoops ill pip them to the SPL, which makes it all hypothetical really.

You can stick Machester up your bum, Maguires in Leeds will be the best place to be for the final

Rangers' run this season goes to show what can be achieved if you have a decent manager at the helm. I hope they take note in the Green Half of the City in time for next season!

As the man who ended both Southampton's and Coventry's long proud Premiership Runs, I struggle to see what his credentials for such a prestige job were in the first place. Celtic's playing squad is light years ahead of the Huns, the difference this season being the man in the dugout. Smith is on a very short list of three folks with Hun connections who I admire tremendously. That said, I still hope he wins fuck all else this season.

I can see the residents of monaco looking forward to the possibility of a man united - rangers super cup final on a friday night! Just as much as manchester is welcoming the scots to their city!

I drove past the City of Manchester Stadium yesterday and there were about 200 40 foot wagons with Industrial Strength Disinfectant written on the side making a delivery, so at least they are prepared. Thinking back to Stu's testemonial, they'll probably be dropping off all week.
