Thankfully the same amongst us numbered 14 votes at the last count - for a new signing to be given this role.
Delusions of Eddie Youd and confusion maybe to blame for the OMB EJ devotees!

Doesn't his contract expire in the summer?
Surely you wouldn't give a new contract to one of the highest paid players at the club who doesn't know what position he should be playing and has more sick days than Darren Anderton?
Bye bye Eddie.

could not agree more...Eddie/Macca doesnt even know his position. And he goes missing for huge chunks of games..no way could he lead us... thats as ridiculous as saying let penford be captain

who would you give the captaincy to though? Considering we've got Clarke who is also on long term sick, along with Bower - that only leaves Wethers who is retiring in cpl of months. Maybe give it to Omar - it will make him give a shit........NOT.

Has anyone suggested Omar???? (dont think so pal!!). Take you daley beating elsewhere you fool, thats on a different thread.
We clearly need someone to come from outside with leadership qualities as Macca himself has said. Personally i would have thought Evans would have been a decent captain but his form will not get him a new contract next season, nor does he desrve one.

Craig Bentham? Reserve team captain, fits the Macca role on the pitch....
That is assuming he comes back from Farsley a much better player and worthy of our first team. He's getting good reviews over there.
But I doubt that very much but as worthy a mention as any of the others, I'd guess the captain will be one of the new recruits from in the summer.

He should be here and in the team anyway. He'd take a lot of pressure of Bullock with his tackling.
He captained the youths and reserves so he knows about being a leader on the pitch. Far better than EJ or Penford and as has been mentioned, Evans is a shadow of the player here before

Have you ever heard Bentham talk on the radio? - one match he was co commentating on - and he was rated as interesting as a cold rice pud - NEXT!

Erm I thought this was about airing our own opinions - not just commenting on players people had already mentioned in a thread??
I mentioned Omar. Same way as you mentioned the previously unmentioned Penford - to provake a debate. Thats what this site is all about isnt it?
Daley is a current international, he's older and more experienced that most of the players that will be coming through this season, he's our 'best player'. So I actually thought that he would be a contender. If only to try and bring some responsiblity to his game and offer some motivation to his play. I actually think he is a good player when he is on the top of his game, but its the complacency of being one of the best that lets him relax. If he had another string to his banjo - ie captaincy, maybe he wouldn't switch off so much.
ps Calling me a fool is way out of order - especially when on the so called "omar is shit" threads, you regulary rock the boat (if we're going by your stick to the thread analysis) by sticking up for him.
pps Pal?? Don't call me dog food chum.

Whats that got to do with being on the pitch? Like i said, he's been captain all way through the club, theres no-one else at the minute.

Inspiring your team-mates for one, I don't doubt he has now found his level.

To be fair, EJ is probably one of the players in with a shout of being captain, id say along with Thorne, Bullock, Bower and Heckingbottom. They would be my top five choices. I think EJ is under rated, he is absent for some parts in games but so is bullock or anyone who plays centre midfield, beecause we just hoof it up or hoof it down the line. EJ aint as bad as people make out. The only Centre Mid we have had this season who has been really good is Nicky Law, and thats because he covered the whole pitch, so he had to be involved in the game.
Centre Mid is he easiest position at City because the ball flies over your head or down the wings, its just that the Centre mid then gets blamed for not being involved

Have you ever thought this might be because theres no player in the middle who "wants" the ball or makes themselves available for the pass?
Maybe the defenders dont have enough confidence in playing the ball into the midfielders feet?
Im sure things would be different if we had someone in the mould of SM in the middle....he DEMANDED the ball, not hide away like the players mentioned earlier! tdwn:

maybe i'm missing the obvious but you would hope that the so called 'leaders' in the squad would be earmarked a lot earlier than Feb/Mar. Seems a bit fruitless to me spending a lot of time discussing it now with the season all but over. I wonder if any of the players see this as a motivator, y'know to become club captain. a bit worrying if no one is standing out, maybe that's something for next season and shows a certain level of 'lack-lustre'ness in the team. shame if it is.
I echo what parrot says there, only seen a few games but time and time again we give the ball away from the back. it's syptomatic of our lowly position fair enough but in my mind there is little excuse why it is by-passing midfield so often. midfielders should come for the ball, the fact it is going long or getting hurridly hoofed straight to the other side shows we seriously lack in midfield areas, which is obviously just about the most important 'bit' of the team unit. something stu should know all too well, must be doing his head in i assume or maybe there is a failing in part of his management skills? not that i am having a go at him like.

Yes -
For me is why do the oppostion Centre Midfielders have too much influence on our games. One of the requirements is to nullify / dominate - we do not see that often from ours.
