Inspired by the fact that I visited the travel agent this morning. We've booked for a week in Lindos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindos) on the Greek island of Rhodes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodes).

We go in the middle of July, which sees me on holiday for my 40th birthday, not that we particularly planned it for that.

6 months to go. Can't wait.

Already booked Devon in August with the Bird and ready made family and hopefully a week abroad in between with the boys if I can think of a good excuse to disappear for a week.

We had problem this year. We fancied a driving holiday in USA but had also promised to visit friends in Calgary. I looked at picking up a rental car somewhere like Charlotte, NC and dropping it off in Calgary but the cost of a one way rental across counties is crazy.

Then a neat solution has presented itself. The shortest driving route from Toronto to Calgary is via the states so the car rental will all be done in Canada (much, much cheaper) and we get to see lots of different parts of USA in the process. Also you get can get budget flights from Manchester to both Toronto and Calgary.

Has anyone on here done a long distance drive in USA before ? How long should you allow to drive per day? What sort of progress can you make off the main highways, driving through the really rural parts? Anyone been to Chicago (the route would pass through), is it worth taking a day out to visit?

We did Devon a couple of years ago, and well enjoyed it. There's loads to see. I'd happily do it again.

Me and the wife got married outside chapel in ST Pauls bay, Lindos, a few years back. Brilliant place. Plenty to see and do in rhodes.

We have booked to go to Ibiza in June. We love it there. Plenty of fun bars for the kids at night. We can chillout with a few beers while they play.tup:
The first time we went there as a family there was three of us. Got on the plane to come home and the wife had someone in her belly.jawdrop:
As you would expect of someone made in Ibiza, the little one is stark raving mad :)

We bought loads of camping gear including a hot tent last year so will hopefully get a few weeks and weekends in at various campsites across the country. As much as I would love to go abroad, I don't think we can afford it this year. JD and Isaac both need a passport and I believe that is almost £150 before we even click on the last minute holiday websites!! :D That's normally what I would I would spend on a 2 week holiday!

Hope to live it up the following year on honeymoon!

In the years I wasn't flying, I used to go down regularly on holiday, I love it down there. If the weather was guaranteed, I wouldn't go anywhere else.

We're going to Greece (but I haven't a clue where abouts) with most of the wife's family - sister and brother in law + kids, mother and father in law and her aunt and uncle.

Not having kids ourselves we can go whenever we want and always avoid the school holidays so I hadn't realised how much they bump the prices up over summer until now. Should be a good laugh all the same.
