Hi
I am a regular visitor to this site & enjoy the banter, I think its the thing you miss the most when you live abroad....
I see a lot of questions/comments re the BCFC/RRFCM relationship, mostly very positive & some posters, just want answers to certain questions they might want to ask...
I am very pleased with our relationship with BCFC & especially the people i do business with at the club, this is the only reason that I decided to work with BCFC..
So if you have questions, please contact me through open discussion on this board or email me @ ptopping@royalracingfc.com
Finally I wish you all a happy new year...

I'll through my hat in the ring first and say that from what i've read by our 2 posters Dutch and Zonne and comments by yourself and looking on RRFCM's website , i'm impressed by the potential of this partnership.
Your probably not the right person to ask but why have we had no information from the BCFC end at all? Every scrap of info has come from the 2 lads or your end.
Do the coaching and managerial staff at BCFC have any contact with yourself or your coaches at Racing. Have they been over to look at players or is it done via recommendation or video?
Do you still have plans to take BCFC players over to Belgium?
Would they be Youth players or older?
Is there a continuous contact between the 2 clubs or maybe just a monthly progress report sort of thing?
Thanks for opening this thread for questions Paul and good luck for 2008 to RRFCM

Is there a formal contractual arrangement in place giving Bradford City exclusivity rights on your players, or is this just a mutual understanding basis?
If Man Utd suddenly decide that they want in on the arrangement, could we find ourselves out the back door?

Realistically what quality of player can we expect to see (i.e. Championship, League One, League Two). Also how soon can we expect the influx to happen.

Hi
Here are he answers to your comments
I'll through my hat in the ring first and say that from what i've read by our 2 posters Dutch and Zonne and comments by yourself and looking on RRFCM's website , i'm impressed by the potential of this partnership.
Your probably not the right person to ask but why have we had no information from the BCFC end at all? Every scrap of info has come from the 2 lads or your end.
Answer: The only comments I can make about Bradford City FC, can only come from my own personal experiences.. We were approached by many clubs, but I decided to work with Bradford because of the people at Bradford City.. We could have struck a deal with many european & british clubs, but it would not of been the special relationship we wanted..
The powers that be at BCFC have been a pleasure to work with, everything has been uncomplicated & very friendly..
Do the coaching and managerial staff at BCFC have any contact with yourself or your coaches at Racing. Have they been over to look at players or is it done via recommendation or video?
Answer: Yes we talk a lot..We recommend players to BCFC for a trial period & it is purely down to BCFC who they sign after the trial period..
Do you still have plans to take BCFC players over to Belgium?
Answer: This will be a decision for BCFC to make, they have total control of player movement in & out of BCFC..
Would they be Youth players or older?
Answer: As per my previous answer
Is there a continuous contact between the 2 clubs or maybe just a monthly progress report sort of thing?
Answer: We talk regularly on the phone, but I have a representaive in the UK.. Mark Ellis.. He represents the interests of RRFCM in the UK.
Thanks for opening this thread for questions Paul and good luck for 2008 to RRFCM
Answer: No problem, if I can help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me..

Hi Bald Bantam
Here are the answers to you comments::
Is there a formal contractual arrangement in place giving Bradford City exclusivity rights on your players, or is this just a mutual understanding basis?
Answer: We have a contract in place that gives Bradford an option on all our players.. Its solely down to BCFC who they sign!!
If Man Utd suddenly decide that they want in on the arrangement, could we find ourselves out the back door?
Answer: Man Utd have an agreement with Royal Antwerp in Belgium already..
But to answer your question.. No!!!

Dear Bantam of the opera
Here is the answer to you question::
Realistically what quality of player can we expect to see (i.e. Championship, League One, League Two). Also how soon can we expect the influx to happen.
Answer: It has started already!! Billy Topp came through one of our scouts in South America.. As for the level of player you can expect, its totally down to BCFC, as we can access any level of player for the club..
The fruits of the agreement is long term rather than short term, as it gives BCFC the ability to sign top young non eu players for nothing...
Then we develop them in Belgium until they recieve an EU passport, then they will move to Bradford City on a free transfer if deemed suitable to BCFC..

Hi Jantje
Billy came through our scouting network in S/America & he was out of contract with his club in Chile... He was originally going to come to Belgium, but I contacted BCFC to inform them of Billy & sent him directly to Bradford on trial... Compensation had to be paid to his old club as he was U24 & that they had offered him another contract...

I saw both his trial games at BCFC and reckon he's a quality prospect. I'm surprised no one else spotted him, did he want to come to Europe especially? Obviously BCFC must rate him to persist with 3 months worth of red tape to get him signed.
Will other signings be more straight forward and less protracted than Billy's, was his situation a one off?

Billy is an international player with a EU passport through german heritage...which makes him hot property.. But no one knew he was available!!
The other problem was that his old club did not want to lose him & made it very difficult for anyone to sign him...
Then once Billy had played the first trial game for BCFC.. he was then no longer under the radar & offers came in from all over the UK and europe..
But Billy was well looked after by the club and was only interested in signing for BCFC, as he had bonded with the players & members of staff...
I am hopeful we can learn from the experiences of the Billy transfer & make sure it will be a lot easier in the future...
But when a club does not want to lose a player of his quality, they will always make things diffcult...

So far we're only getting the benefits that BCFC are getting.
What are Racing getting from this partnership??
And are we (as a partnership) going to have problems with say agencies holding players registrations ala Tevez and Mascherano in the premiership, i thought this was becoming more wide spread in south america especially.
Can anybody also confirm that I'm sure Oxford United once had a exchange thing with Juventus??

i understand that they get 50% of the sell on fee's made from players coming through them!
So if we sell Edwardo du Trumpet to Bolton for £500k they get £250k!!
Btw, does anyone know if this sell on counts with Willy Topp??

RRFCM will get sell on commisions on players sold by BCFC....
As for 3rd Party ownership, it is common place in world soccer, but all players that move to BCFC will be 100% owned by BCFC..

Having read your interview with Dutch and Zonne, how do the local supporters feel about all this?
I understand Racing were once in the top division in Belgium, don't the locals want you to keep hot properties to progress back up the Belgian League or are they content with the situation?
Are all these lads able and free to play in Belgian league games whilst they are studying and qualifying?

I have a very good relationship with our supporters & they now fully understand the BCFC/RRFCM relationship, but after two relegations in two years & years of severe financial problems, they understand that we must rebuild the club from stratch again..
The club has a long history of developing top young talent & that is where we will go again. As a club we will try & source the best young talent worldwide & develop the best for BCFC & RRFCM
Players will arrive in belgium as students or on pro contracts, which enables them to play in the Belgium leagues..
After 3 yrs of residence, the players will be eligible for Belgium citizenship & an eu passport.. Thus qualifying to play for Bradford, if deemed good enough..

Hi
There are no quotas in Belgium!!! Also we can sign players on pro contracts instead as students.. Belgium has a very liberal immigration policy, where you can sign any player regardless of status on a pro or student contract..
As for some countries in South america 60/70% of persons are eligible for EU passports due to ancestry rules.. Billy Topp is one of these cases,,

I've had an interest in Belgian football for years as i spent quite a bit of time in Oostende.
I know Standard are head and shoulders above anyone else in the region but in my memory there was RFC Liege, Seraing and Tilleur all in or near the top league, Is there room for Montegnee to progress that far or are you content to develop and produce players and see where it gets you.
You obviously know your supporters mindset but surely they want to see a winning team sooner rather than later. Don't they hassle you to try and keep the better players you produce?
I'm not trying to argue here, i'm genuinely interested because i know how football fans over think about their clubs!!!

I am very impressed with your knowledge on Belgium football...
Standard liege are a very good club with incredible support
RFC liege are only a mile away from us & play two leagues above us, we play them every now & then.. They are very similiar to BCFC, a big club with great support on there way up.. I nearly bought the club, but I opted for RRFCM because they would not of excepted this program..
Tilluer play in the League below us & seraing play in the same league as RFC Liege..
As for Montegnee we are in a great position:
We are Solvent (which is a miracle in Belgium football)
Seven of our 1st team are U19, (including four youth internationals)
We have a very good youth system
We have a great scouting system
We have soccer academies throughout N America..
Our suporters are small in number but incredible, they love the club & will always support the club.. Whatever league we play in!
But we will move up the leagues in time, but we must be realistic in our expectations..

I understand what you mean about being solvent in Belgian football!!! There have been numerous amalgamations of clubs over the last few years and i mean quite large and respected clubs by Belgian standards.
A personal friend of mine was involved in the amalgamation of the 2 Oostende clubs in the '80s and after 5 years a group of one of the original clubs splintered off and reformed the old club. The ironic part is that they now share the Albertpark stadium with KV Oostende but wanted their original identity.
I don't know Liege very well but the Montegnee fans seem a real loyal bunch and it seems like a club with a distinct identity within the city and a great tradition.
Lets hope this partnership can benefit both our clubs.

Hi Jonny
Good Question!!
BCFC have an option on all players owned by Montegnee..
But we do get offered players by our scouts, we pass these options on to BCFC.. Some might be suitable for BCFC, Some not..
eg: Billy Topp!!! But two weeks ago we were offered Humberto Suazo for 2 million GBP, he went to Club Atlético Independiente (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_Atl%C3%A9tico_Independiente) in Argentina this week for $5 million..

Were in the equivalent of the English conference in the Belgium system, We play in the liege region after being relegated from from the national div 4 last year..
Currently we are 9th in our division, we are doing ok this year.. We were favorites for relegation as we have the youngest squad in the division, but there is a good chance we could be promoted.
We made a conscious decision to build a young team this year, with 5 our first 11 being U19s.. After a rocky start we have improved considerably..
We have some good young players who just need time to develop, our goals are not play in the 1st division.. Our goals are to develop players to play in the 1st division..
Our goals are very different to those of BCFC, but very achievable in time..
As for souvenir's.. What are you looking for??

Paul, looking at the Montegnee squad, the belgian players on there don't sound too belgian, are some of these players who have gained nationality through living in belgium for 3 years?
Eg:
Habib Bangoura
Bangoura is a SL name isn't it?
Cheers
Yeadon
Habib is from the Congo, he is the younger brother of the Bangoura that played for Stoke City..
He's 19 & plays central defence for us, very quick & raw, but improving all the time.. He will get a Belgium passport next yr..
The players who are looking to gain citizenship in Belgium at this moment are:
Shaughnessy: - USA
Gordley: - USA
Omokoa: - Canadian
Braithwaite: - Canadian
But when our university opens in august, we hope to have 20-25 new players from overseas..

Young Eli does not qualify at present, but he's not a bad player..
He finally played his first official match in our 2nd team just before xmas, as it took 3 months to register him.. But he has played in a lot of friendlies for us & has attracted a lot of interest from Belgium & Dutch clubs..
But he will stay at the club until he gets his EU passport & we will see how good he is then.. When he is eligible BCFC will have an option to sign him..
He came from our scout in Seattle, USA & we are very pleased with his progress.. He will start playing for our 1st team this month..
Name: Eli Gordley
Nationality: USA
Age: 19
height: 6ft 2ins
Position: Centre forward

English football is very popular in Belgium & the supporters of RRFCM certainly know BCFC.. I remember the first time i mentioned BCFC to one of our supporters & the first thing he mentioned was the fire...
But it would be nice to see a young player from RRFCM walk out to play at valley parade for BCFC.. The talent is certainly here!!
Maybe in the future...

All I can say that the football world is a very small & extremely competitive one.. We are all looking for players all the time, not just in transfer window period...
So we continually form a lists of players that may be available, then we look to sign the best players within our budgets...
So if you are asking me if BCFC & RRFCM talk about signing of players that may improve the BCFC playing squad, the answer is yes...
But if you are asking me for any other information, I cannot comment any further.. I think you will understand why!!

Moahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaa. I doubt Lukey will be coming over, he's needed at City.
More likely candidates I'd say would be Saynor, Hopkins, Sharry (when fit) and maybe Sheridan. Though of course that's all down to Macca, ML, JR etc.

Hi Paul. Thanks for your candid replies and for taking the time to comment on here.
McCall has used Topp for 15 minutes out of 3 eligible games. Do you think that McCall has concerns re fitness, or Topp's ability to cope with the physical nature of the English game? We are keen to see more of him.
Also, do you have any right to push through a transfer where you have a sell on interest. Eg - if player x receives a transfer fee offer above Y, you can demand the transfer goes through to get your sell on?

Im sure SM has wrapped Willy in cotton wool and wants to introduce him to the rigours of division 4 footy slowly ;)
During the game at Accrington I couldn't believe he left Conlon on till the end...he was breathing out of his arse for the last 20 mins!
Afterwards It dawned on me that he probably left him on to cope with defending any set-pieces while we were defending a 1 goal lead at the time.
Thats probably why Willy didn't get a kick at Accrington IMO ;)

Stuart was very keen to sign Billy & Stuart knows Billy better than myself, as he see's him & works with him in training everyday.. But I must admit the game in south america is very different to the UK.. You just have to look at Tevez & mascherano, they took time to settle.. When the time is right for BCFC & Billy, I am sure you will see more of him...
As for the transfer of players that previously come from RRFCM, we have no say in the transfer fee or authority in any part of any future transfers..

This is the right way forward for City.
I put something similar idea forward when the trust asked for ideas to take city forward many ions ago - never thought there would be a chance of it happening. For me the club needed to be able to offer /attract young footballers of an higher calibre - something other clubs did not - to make it appeal to them and their parents. If they do not quite make the grade - they would have other skills and qualifications to fall back on.
I for one hope it gets off the ground as it will make you feel proud City are leading the way in this country in something postive that can benefit the club, the Bradford area and young footballers from the UK and abroad - with an ambition to play footie. They should look at getting central and local Govt putting funds into helping this get off the ground.

I think it is something most league clubs should be doing, but if Bradford can lead the way and get a good head start on the rest then that will only be good for City. If we can start taking the best young kids away from Leeds, Blackburn, Hull, etc because we can offer something they can't get anywhere else then fantastic for us.
And it might mean that we won't have another case like Paul Denvers as he could have done his studying whilst still at City.

Is there potentially more quality players in the Americas or Africa from a scouting point of view. I understand there will be more chance of getting European passports on a heritage basis with lads from the Americas.
How would lads from Canada stand with being Commonwealth citizens? Would they still need a qualifying period.

Hi Jantje
Canada is the the same south america with lots of european heritage..
No commonwealth special deals I am afraid though... still the three yr waiting period..
But there is a lot of quality in Canada & we have one or two very good prospects in Ontario, who will come to Belgium this year..

But there are some very talented young players in Belgium & Holland..
I am sorry to say, but they are light years ahead of the UK in the terms of academies...

All I can say about this matter, is that we identified a very good south american 1st division player.. The player had an EU passport through heritage... an extremely good contract was offered and agreed by all parties... but out of the blue three days before his departure, it was discovered his long time partner was unable to join him, due to immigration difficulties of non eu status ... the player has decided to stay in south america until this problem has been resolved... Is that the final figure, surely they haven't paid so much up front fro a 13 year old?
He is 14 years old JS and Chelsea had to pay L33ds nearly £1/2 million for the 15 year old, they knicked off them.
There will be an upfront fee plus add ons which would include getting into the first team, appearences, international call up and there might even be a sell on fee.

Hi
After a manic couple of weeks of travelling, I am finally back in the office...
i am sorry for the delay in answering your questions..
I am afraid I do not know anything about the young players moving on from BCFC... We can only wish them well in there future careers.. But we will see a lot more of these deals in the future..
There has been one signing that has been in the works for 6 months & is a definite one for the future...I spoke to the Chelsea scout for south america in the USA last week & they rate the kid below very highly...
This signing is very low key in europe, but in south america it is a very big deal..
Chelsea have signed Argentina Under-20 international striker Franco Di Santo on a four-and-a-half year contract.
The 18-year-old arrives at Stamford Bridge from Chilean side Audax Italiano for an undisclosed fee.
Despite standing 6ft 4in tall Di Santo, who holds an Italian passport, has been compared to diminutive Argentina legend Diego Maradona. Chelsea have reportedly paid more than £3m for Di Santo, who was also linked with Manchester United and Liverpool.

Hi Jonny
I am very impressed!!!!! Very few people know him out side of south america...
Nicolas Millian is a very hot property in south america, he is I am afraid out of Bradford City's price range...

Trips like this are good for the development of young players...
They played in hot conditions, on hard pitches & had to deal with the rigors of travel... My scout in Arizona who set up the trip, said the feedback has been fantastic, the players & staff were a credit to Bradford as a whole...
They were professional beyond there years & left a posse of future BCFC supporters...BCFC will always have an open invitation to attend the event again in the future..
The standard of play at the tournament was perfect for the age group & development of the players... As players get older there are higher level tournaments that might be more beneficial... I am going to the Dallas Cup next month on a scouting mission, this is the best youth club tournament in the world.... maybe on for the future for BCFC...
The Club are very keen for the youth teams to travel to aid there development....

I try & keep out of the uk player market as much as possible..
Our market is usually non EU players aged 18-20.. (as fifa have imposed a ban on signing non eu players under the age of 18)
We provide all of them with a university education & a 1st class football education... Next year 90% of our players will be under 19, as we look to build the club into a true academy.
Our team on sunday included 9 players, 19 & under..

hester United are the latest club to be linked with 15-year-old defender Paul Jose Mpoklu, who has also attracted the interest of Spurs.
The Congolese, from Belgian club Standard Liege, has already had a trial with Tottenham, who are keen to sign him when he turns 16.
But now Sir Alex Ferguson's United have offered a trial to the highly regarded youngster, who has a Belgian passport, and want to snap him up before he signs any formal deal with Liege.
Speaking of the situation, Mpoklu told the Daily Mirror: "I will have to wait a few months before I make a decision.
Fantastic
"Now I have Manchester United to think about too but I did enjoy London and went to the Tottenham-Wigan game and it was fantastic."
Mpoklu is the cousin of Porto defender Jose Bosingwa and gets advice from him.
"I have spoken a lot with my cousin and he gives me good advice," he said, adding: "I love English football, they have great players and the atmosphere in stadiums is amazing."

Hi
Some would argue that they are the biggest club in Belgium!!!
They have been in the doldrums for a fair few years.. But I do go to there games when I can, as they are only 10 minutes from our ground..
They have an incredible fanatical support, the atmosphere in the stadium from the supporters in second to none in Belgium..
I would even say that I have not been to many UK grounds that could match the atmosphere..

Paul, as I understand it the deal between City and Montegnee is time-restricted and lasts until circa 2010, correct me if I am wrong. it is perhaps early in the day to be asking this but are you confident that deal will be extended? I ask because my view on this arrangement is that we will not necessarily see the fruits of the deal for another few years anyway.
I see Topp as a bit of a rare exception to how I would expect this arrangement to work as you effectively did the negotiating with another Club as opposed to having him in the Montegnee ranks at the time.

Your totally correct...
We do have an agreement for just over 2yrs, the deal was set up as an agreement for our younger players, not the Willy Topp's of this world..
Bradford will not see the true fruits of the younger players for about 3-5yrs..
We thought that Topp deal would be a rare exception, but now we are constantly looking for players for BCAFC & every now & then, we contact Bradford City..
As for the extending the deal with BCAFC, we will discuss that nearer the time as that is 2yrs away. But we are happy so far with the deal...

The lad who got injured was a gamble from a US college...
He came through one of my new scouts in California..In future players like this will come to me in Belgium first.. Then if we feel they are good enough they can come to the UK... Pershad has this option open to him.

Any news from Racing about players coming either way? Any news yet on the pre-season friendly?

I understand that we won't see product of the academy for a couple of seasons yet.

How many times do you have to say it! roflmao:
Seriously though Paul has been quiet as well lately, last visit 24th March same day as Wykie. jawdrop:
Surely Paul is not a Wykie alter-ego, if he is then that's the best one since Joyboy! roflmao:
I suspect paul has been busy away from here whereas I am worried about Wykie!

As this is the Q & A section for Paul.
Paul, what is the latest situation on the arrangement with Bradford City? Is there progress on both sides and are there promising young players on the horizon for City?

Paul, I assume because of the latest issues we have become aware of you are not frequenting this site or actively posting at any rate for fear of any legal action that may arise.
For what it's worth, I admire your honesty in appraising the situation in latest interview with Nigel, and I admire your intentions to try and appease the situation and your commitment to making this type of venture work. I fear that unfortunately in this game the targets are always short-term as the plans are effectively revised season on season.
All the best.
