View Full Version : Ticket Office all Sacked?!
Theres a post on the OMB that Mark Lawn has sacked the entire ticket office for sabotage, how bizarre!!?

When it appears on the OFFICAL site and not hear say on a message board then i will believe it
Bit of an odd wind up if it is so, still it takes all sorts!
"Just to let every body know that all the ticket staff were made redundant today. These are the lads who have worked long hours for the club. Working sunday's and Bank hols for flat rate. There were promised days in lieu that never arrived. They worked for free when the club was in admin to help out. Long before Mr Lawn arrived. When he was in recruitment, a long time ago employment laws were different, times have changed. The days of the mill owner i thought were over. They were even told off for going over to say goodbye to Stuart Mc Call. just heard now they are being accused of sabotage for deleting infomation of the computer, when this is not true. For all of you who think the club is in safe hands think again. Too many egos."

Not saying it's not true but it wouldn't suprise me if it was.
Maybe the SAUCE of power will back it up jump:jump:jump:

I just got a text from a lad I know who works (or used to work) down there and it's 100% true. Sounds like he's pretty pissed off (especially with Lawn), doesn't have a clue what'll happen to teh ticket office now!

Well that is a shock! Wonder what has gone on there then!!
True - Things happen - Even companies making a profit make people redundant!
Obviously not part of Lawn's plans for the future, Just because they may have served the company well and been loyal doesn't mean they are secure in there jobs. If someone at the top has new idea's and at the end of the day those at the top who pay the wages call the shot's want to change things - then they are free todo so.
I would not be suprised if some spin is put on it in tomorrow's T&A though, but it's likely that they are restructing from the bottom now they have changed the top jobs around the coffee table.

Gross misconduct? - who knows?
Redundancy can happen anywhere anytime - maybe the club feel with all the season tickets sold, the level of sales on matchdays and just prior, do not warrant employing 3 people?
All will come out with the dirty washing as they say!!!

Theres talk on the omb of the office staff being frogmarched off the premises within half an hour of being told their jobs were gone.
That doesn't sound like the actions of mere cost cutting to me. Sounds like something serious has been uncovered or a major breakdown somewhere.

I liked this from mick.n. on the OMB:
"Through my contacts I've just heard that in order to cut costs, any player that is injured and therefore not available to play has to double up as ticket staff. So I guess it's Thorne and Evans who will be behind the counter, probably helped out by Doris who normally does the cleaning. EJ is car park attendant - that's not a bad job because he gets to wear an official looking hat and reflective jacket. Ricketts is penned in for 'official changer of lightbulbs', obviously his size secured him that position but if he drops any it could be instant dismissal."

However, if they have been sacked for gross misconduct and the staff appeal against this, then the club will not be able to make any of it public until the tribunal has made it's decision.
Even that though doesn't mean we will ever find out because it's possible that there are confidentiality clauses if settled out of court etc.

I got finished at my previous job and a Director was on the steps of the offices, preventing me from going in to say cheerio to people I'd worked with for 18 months. It's pretty common pratice now to get people away as soon as possible.

I honestly agree that there is nothing sinister at all in this. From what I can gather as well as matchday admission there is a lot of knock on in other areas from the cheap season tickets that has severley curtailed revenue that the uber business men on our board of directors didn't have the hindsight to predict.

like having to scratch and scrape to find sponsors and fill tables in the Banq suite.
Why would you pay £40 a head when you get in for £6.00?
Dr Wisey
10-12-2007, 02:16 PM
and there's me thinking they would be swamped with match day sponsors....................
.............Is there to be a Christmas Raffle this year? - It would give the Trust something to do other than write inspiring pre match articles for the programme (zzzzz)
I worked with a lad last year who got his tickets for free each game from a friend who worked in the ticket office.
He also got other tickets aswell. He complained that at the start of last season when we were doing well, he could sell his spare tickets (given to him free) for a tenner. When the relegation form kicked he couldnt give them away.
I wonder how many other people know people with free tickets?

Im guessing he sacked 4 and totally deleted their roles and postitions, and then created 2 new positions or other positions re formed under a different name.
For example
4 Ticket office sales people (dont know what their titles were) finished and the jobs finished as well.
2 new jobs created and ready to be filled perhaps by 2 of the 4 who were sacked and finished?

I know what your saying here but my point is - (and Mr Lawn says it in the T & A) - they werent sacked, they were made redundant !!
ok the jobs get made redundant and create another two !!!
That is my point - Why lay off all 4 if you know you are going to have another 2 more jobs created - dress the positions up with fancy (albeit strange) titles all you want but I bet they are just about 100% responsibilities as previously... surely if, as he states in the T & A, they can apply for these jobs, then why put them through all he has put them through  why not have a quiet word beforehand and put them in the picture !!! quite frankly this stinks imo !! tdwn:

If the duties involved in two "new" jobs he creates bare more than a passing resemblence to any of those he has "made redundant" and he fills them in less than six months, then he's breaking the law and the two unlucky candidates have grounds to do him for unfair dismissal.

Why would "the two unlucky candidates have grounds to do him for unfair dismissal." If there is only the work for two, not four then a net of two are made redundant. That's life.

If there was any chance of any of the four getting the job, they would have all been invited to apply for the jobs before being made redundant. Forking out just two lots of redundancy rather than paying out for all four.

I've seen this kind of thing before. I think by giving them the chance to apply for these "NEW" positions he is somehow getting around the law but may be wrong. What often happens is they reduce the hours and pay so someone who worked 35 hours and earned £?? will be offered 20 hours with £?? which is no good if you have bills and a mortgage.
My mrs got laid off when she was 3 months pregnant from some b@stard recruitment company in Leeds, they said they had made her job redundant rather than her so they could get rid and not have to pay maternity and she hadn't been there long enough to do anything about it. Sounds like Lawn falls into this category of "cnuts that don't care".

Hence making all four redundant and then saying they can apply for the jobs again...In other words don't call us we'll call you..
The Club doesn't as i understand it have to explain it's hirings and firings to anyone...But because of the hoo hah on message boards they chose to explain their reasons...
I wouldn't have been arsed if they did or not...But i will be asking my local Tescos who i have spent far more at than i have at City to send me info of any of their sackings in the future...

I think you're missing the point T. If folk are shit at their job, then fair enough, get rid. But to make people redundant and then advertise 2 of the same jobs makes City look naive about employement law and weak in man management. There were 2 too many ticket staff, so just get shut of 2! Why all this charade? Typical City.
