Anyone know howto apply a firmware update once you've been hit by the white screen of death? do you do the update using the usb cable?

I can't get mine to turn on, just sits at a white screen ...

Even if you did a new firmware update it wouldn't matter. Looks like its knackered

Guess i'm lucky eh?

I found this on sony's website: http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=us&lc=en&ver=4000&template=ps1_1_3_1_1&zone=ps&lm=ps1_1&pid=10245&fid=21839&esi=true

And my phone has now come back to life, i'm in my 17th month of an 18 month contract so can upgrade it falls over again.

Oh right, maybe you had an older version of the firmware then. When it happened with my phone it didn't work and had to send it back to Orange

I was running the latest firmware according to the update service on the phone before it did crash, I think I might commit to another 12 or 18 month contract to get a PDA/Blackberry.

Im testing the Palm Treo 500V for Vodafone, it runs on Windows Mobile 6 and it's fantastic. Ive found out now that Blackberry's are no where near as good as Palms when it come to handling all-round business stuff, no wonder they're so popular in the states.

I think Handspring manufactured their own line of handsets (Visors??) using Palm software but then Palm wanted to corner the PDA side of the market so they bought Handspring.
