Southend have failed in a bid to sign Reading striker Shaun Goater.
Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson was hoping to bring the former Manchester City man to Roots Hall to add experience to his squad.
Goater rejected the overtures as he does not want to drop down to League One and Tilson admitted he was extremely disappointed to lose out on the striker.
"Shaun was someone we were looking at," said Tilson. "He has a very good record and would have done a good job for us.
"But he wants to carry on playing in the Championship and doesn't want to drop down into League One, which is a shame from our point of view."
I think he would have been a good signing for us if we had gone in for him but looks like he doesn't want to drop down a division.

I disagree, Goater is 35 which is way too old for us in my opinion.

Yeah look at deano last year...
I mean if Goater had such a shite season at that age he would be a right waste lol
Come on BotO....
Goater would be class for a one season swan song.....
Feed the goat and he will score......

Didnt realise he were so old, but even for the 1 season, specially this division, would be good.

Yes :D
Goater is a player i would have loved city to sign way back in the old days when he played for Rotherham and i agree he is quality, one thing i will say though Tony is that players of that age sometimes have an attitude of just playing for the money and i think we all agree that we cannot afford that.
I will support any player of any age who will pull on the claret and amber with pride.

If anybody wonders why i have changed my tune since the original discussion is because i think we need another goalscorer to push us forward this season, and as others have rightly said Goater could do that for one more year.

I wonder if he keeps intouch with Edgehill from their days together at Man City?
He could tell the Goat what a wonderfull club we've here! :D

Both Edghill and Goater would be decent additions to our squad, but like the Bridges rumour i just cant see Goater signing. From what people have said who have been to the friendlies we need a new goalscorer, and that is what Goater is.

Look on the omb on the club questions forum and Jon makes it as clear as possible that there is no truth in the rumours.

He also mades it as clear as possible that Norwich would not go down...:D :D
.
City are going for promotion this year, mark my words.Behind the scenes they are going for it.Remember Browns talk earlier this preseason, not too bad if we dont go up?Bullsh1t,they want it but wont commit to saying it to keep the pressure off.Its easy to forget that J.R and the board are fans, just like us they want the glory of promotion. We know there is a decent wage waiting to be paid to a decent player.
The closer it gets to september the more nervous some players with no club will get.Their wage demands will come down.Unless they are financailly secure(like our Ashley)then a low wage for 12 months is better than no wages till after xmas. There must be a lot of players who's arse is twitching like a rabbits nose.

Bradford City manager Colin Todd has dismissed reports linking him with a move for former Manchester City striker Shaun Goater.
The Bermudan international is looking for pastures new after Championship side Reading terminated his contract by mutual consent.
The former Bristol City hit-man was then linked to have interest from The Bantams and League One rivals Southend United but Todd has dismissed having any contact with the 35-year-old.

Ta, bit of a shame really but as i keep saying like a broken record i think Cooke will play a big part this season so any further player will be a big bonus.

Michael Ricketts is coming on one year deal....
We like players who have lost they way.. He well and truely fits that mould...
I dont really believe hes coming here but i hope CT gives him a bell just for the laugh...
I know the wage side of things but if Bristol can sign those two on vastly reduced wages.!!!
How much of a looney would you of looked if you had predicted during the start of last season that Stewart and Bridges to lead a line in League one this term...

Makes it more interesting to who CT is trying to line up. As the transfer deadline looms it seems to get ore like a game of poker - which forward will sign for what we can offer?

I just hope whoever Todd brings in knows where the net is and will be at a decent age to have a future at the club.
