plus chairman says they'll not be rushed into appointint new manager

"We want to take a considered view as part of the transformation and shaping of one of the best clubs in the land. Exciting times and further challenges lie ahead on and off the field for United and the new manager will have a full part to play," added Mr McCabe.

They said they aren't rushing into an appointment!

Surely that is good news? If McCall was going to be given the job he'd have been given it straight away, just like Wigan did!

Yep, later on today the Sheffield United website will be updated. Interesting to see how they refer to McCall

Must admit i'm feeling a bit impatient now. I hadn't worried coz i'd been quite convinced stuart was coming and therefore nothing would be said until after the season had ended. I really had hoped they would announce someone today, gutted! But, they're in no hurry, thats good news to me :D Just please put us out of our misery soon!!!

With Stuart been given until the end of the week to decide if he wants the Bradford job or not, he has a tough decision to make, surely he has to go with us?

But has he been given till the end of the week to decide about the Bradford job? Surely if Rhodes wants McCall he's not going to rush him for an answer

I'm still ever hopeful that Stu will come to City, but I cant see him coming here as second fiddle - which I think was mentioned in a post from ABS .. sorry if I read it wrong btw...

Another point is, that Wethers clearly states on the omb that transfers etc are frozen until a new gaffer is appointed and that we only have until this Friday to offer Contracts to the players we wish to keep.

Now unless Ive gone totally blonde, that doesnt give Stu a week... !!

More delays, expect us to finally get a new manager next February, statement from JR next week.....

"Well we know Stuart has taken the managers job at Sheffield United, but we are going to leave the vacancy open here in case it doesn't work out for him"

Must admit I've kept the Sheffield site open for the last hour but no change and no announcement. Time to go to bed so I will check on here in the morning-I know someone will keep me up to speed. Cheers.

Doesn't really tell us anything new but Simon Parker has done a small piece on the T&A.

City's McCall hopes still alive

City fans are still dreaming of Stuart McCall's return to Valley Parade after Sheffield United revealed they would not be rushing to find Neil Warnock's replacement.
Warnock, as expected, announced his departure at a Bramall Lane press conference today to end a seven-and-a-half year reign in South Yorkshire.
But McCall, tipped to take over, was not immediately unveiled as the Blades next boss.

Instead Sheffield United plc chairman Kevin McCabe insisted they would not be rushing into making a new appointment.
McCabe said: "We want to take a considered view as part of the transformation and shaping of one of the best clubs in the land."
Warnock said: "Some lucky man is going to take the club over now because the infra-structure is already there."
Bantams supporters will now be keeping their fingers crossed that McCall accepts the open invitation from chairman Julian Rhodes to come back to the club where he will always enjoy legend status.
Should McCall opt to stay with the Blades, David Wetherall would be favourite to step up for the permanent role.
But with the contracts of several players hanging on a new appointment, Rhodes is keen to push on with matters and will be hoping to make an an-nouncement within the next few days.

I'm checking the Blades forums and McCall seems to be the popular choice among fans.
There's nobody else they have mentioned that I would even consider. With one exception, Chris Coleman.

I don't understand why they did not make the appointment straight away. Bolton did, Wigan did. Very strange the Blades did not.

Big decision for Macca. If he applies for the Blades job he could miss out and be out of a job. By that time Wethers would be installed at City and Macca would be screwed.
How confident is he he'd get the job? He'd be very popular with the fans and players but he is unproven in the top seat.

Can't believe some Blades fans have mentioned Jewell !!! Dream on boys.

This is very positive news, on Radio Sheffield the Blades Chairman said they have been considering a change in management structure for some time and he keeps referencing a new face and new ideas etc. I don't think McCall is the popular choice at United at all, ive been on Blades MAD and they see McCall as a continuation of the Warnock regime.

Either way McCall either takes a risk turns down the City job in hopes of landing the Blades job ahead of these fresh faces their chairman keeps mentioning or he guarantees being a manager next year by taking the City job.

in the end of the day stu doesn't really owe this club anything surely? we all want him to come, he knows that but in the end, if he decided not to okay i'd be gutted but this guy has been brilliant and i'd have to begrudgingly say fair play to the guy and respect his decision. we all love the speculation, come on, but we'd be better just trying to forget about it for the time being as whatever happens will happen and will have nowt to do with us.

He doesn't, you are quite right! In fact, the state Bradford City is in, I'd actually advise him to run a fucking mile if Junior actually really does intend to speak to Stu. Though I dunno what the point of him doing that would be, given Wetherall has already been offered the job.
