View Full Version : Next Season - Squad
Jon Pollard has just revealed that the following players are in contract with us for next season, which suggests that everyone else will be going.
1 DONOVAN RICKETTS
5 DAVID WETHERALL
6 MARK BOWER
9 EDDIE JOHNSON
10 DEAN WINDASS
20 MATTHEW CLARKE
23 OMAR DALEY
One has to suspect that Dean Windass will be leaving too so that will leave us with a squad of only 6.
Appart from Wetherall non will be high earners so the wage bill will be slashed to next to nothing appart from Wetherall's wages.
So we have the chance of a clean start, new manager and new players with many of the underperforming wasters going out of the door of which appart from MBW I would be reluctant to offer any a new contract. I would probably try and keep Simon Ainge too.
I'd like to see a move for Billy Paynter but think he will have attracted the interest of a few other teams at the moment.
So in effect we will start life in League 2 in much the same situation as Huddersfield did a few seasons back but we don't have a youth system like they do to produce any decent tallent.

If Rhodes has any sense(which we know he hasnt) He will move heaven & earth to get Wethers off the wage bill for next season, as he is costly and no longer good enough at L1 level and i doubt he will be any better in L2!
I would also like to see Donavan replaced too!!tup:

Well his name isn't on that list so hopefully any new manager coming in can see what the rest of us can straight away and get rid.

And City fans wonder why our Youth never progress when they are expected to be star player's who doesn't make mistakes  ....Scholes, Beckham and Giggs wouldn't have stood a chance at VP tdwn:

Cheers for the info Rick, this was a question i asked last week on my contracts thread.
I was re-assured there would be free transfers in abundance for us to sign next year:jd:

Anybody else hear that Spencer Weir-Daley will sign a 2 year deal for City. This was part of the deal that got him out of his loan spell at Lincoln.

You may be right Beer but i heard he was due to extend his loan at Lincoln until City came up with the deal to sign him in the summer. Just wondered if anyone else had heard anything on these lines

Thats not bad, Clarke was one of the best CD in League 2, even when he went back to Darlo earlier in season, Eddie Johnson will be great in that League IMO, and the Don will cruise through if he's not snapped up through the summer, Wetherall should go, or get less money and become a coach, Bower is solid at this level so will be good in League 2, Omar Daley was adequate in Champo and oright in this league, and with him still settling into the English game think he will be really good in League 2, then if we were to go back up, these players will probably be good enough for League 1 aswel, because they'll have that confidence and belief.
And the players out of contract which I would get for enother year are:
Ainge
Muirhead (League 2 is his level)
Xavier
Penford
Smith
I would try and sign a few meatheads aswel!
Don't know why people would want to replace The Don, crazy talk!:D
is there a site that shows players that are out of contract from every club at the end of season?

Don't know if anyones mentioned it but apart from the Blades, Macca has a good relationship with Walter Smith & Ally McCoist, maybe a couple of Rangers players could be on their way.

I would think Macca would have strong connections with many clubs with Jock McPlop managers...
Maybe Jim Jeffries will sort us out a couple of him players.....:sorry:
Let's see him sign a contract first though eh!!

They have an excellent academy and youth system up there - we could do a lot worse than be a feeder club to help give some of their young uns some 1st team experience!!....
