View Full Version : Would league 2 be a more attractive option?

For Stuart? Many rookie managers have made it in Div 2, where they can cut thier teeth without the fear of playing ex premiership and championship clubs. If Stuart did come in and take the job if we get relegated, he would be assurred of the best ground in the division, with him at the helm - the best support in the division, and a group of players who hopefully will be at least as good if not bettter than the oppo. Perhaps he could use the experience as a springboard to bigger things, or as a fast track exercise to getting us back in the Championship.
Maybe us going down wouldnt put him off coming to us in the summer?

I don't think so! I think if we stay up (which I hope we will) and Sheff Utd come down (which I think they will) then McCall will be here in the Summer. I don't think McCall would drop that many leagues to manage us, and I don't think he'd like his salary slashed by so much, even though his heart is here at VP!

I don't think money motivates him though - he has said that before - maybe he feels he needs to open Chapter 3.
I still think he will come i just feel sorry for him coming to work with a numpty like rhodes

i think one day stu may come back to manage us and i hope he does but until then we've got wethers and a lot of underachievers so we've no choice but to get behind him in his first foray into management and put the speculation to one side for the time being.

There is a possibility of him coming if we stay up, none if we go down. So forget about him.

Care to expand? Why do you think this? Why is there such a huge difference between the 3rd and 4th tier, that it should be such a factor in his decision?

He can fook off then as if it is good enough for Paul Ince at one of the shittest clubs in football then it should be good enough for the Ginger one....

Based on a conversation with someone who works at the club in a position to know who shall remain nameless.
I don't particularly know the reasoning behind why, but it's probably money - if we go down then I doubt we would be able to afford him.

I can't see the reason being money....we're going to be skint for the next few years whatever division we're in.

Far skinter if we are down a division with the drop in attendance that will come with that. The question will be whether we can survive, not which manager we can attract.

Exactly - Ince was one of the managers I was thinking about. Attendences in league 2 - are they going to be drastically different from this season? Torquay and a handful of west country clubs aside - most of the other clubs are a lot nearer. Add to the fact that we would potentially be amongst the front runners to get promoted and actually win some games ,and this could swell the attendences further. Would Chris Hutchings had survived longer if we were in div 2, rather than thrust into the premiership with no managerial experience? I don't think McCall is arrogant enough to think he can walk straight into a championship side and shun the opportunity of league 2....source or no source saying otherwise.

I remember telling myself that after we were relegated from the Premiership :(.......then after we were relegated from the Championship and so on and so on......:(
