The first real big betting race of the week over 2 miles and 110 yards over the smaller obstacles and for 4 year-olds and older. For you traditionalists you'll be backing the favourite Detroit City for obvious reasons! For me it's Iktitaf (each way in the real betting world), or Brave Inca to take on the fav.

Past winners include Hardy Eustace (running again this year) twice in 2004 and 2005, Brave Inca last year, and prior to all that Istabraq three times. For the old timers Sea Pigeon, Comedy of Errors, Bula, Persian War, Lanzarote, Monksfield, Dawn Run and See You Then are all brilliant past winners. I used to love the build up to this in the shops cos you got the entire run down of the previous winners, and some of Sea Pigeon's wins were unbelieveable, taking nothing away from Istabraq.

Win Bets Only (I can't do each way on here!):D

Ante-Post rules apply, non-runners are classed as losers

Dead heat rules apply

For those avid betters I won't apply rule 4 if a runner is pulled out!tup:

Rule 4 is where if a horse is pulled out at the last minute then a deduction is applied depending on the price - this is to adjust the prices and make the market a profitable one. if for example the fav was pulled out in this race it would take about 30% off the profit margins for the race meaning the bookies would lose. They enforce a rule 4 which is a percentage deduction of the stakes. It is the bane of punters' lives especially when a fancied horse is backed in at the last minute and is then pulled out - they might have backed a horse at decent odds but get stung by the Rule 4.

Just play for fun, JD, let the real business end of betting be dealt with by the pros like Eurobantam, Northern and by the looks of it Sleepless in Settle (good name by the way!).

I'm going off Phil's tips from the OMB, he's already got me in profit for the day and there is still 3 races to go.

He picked Sublimity as a good horse to back each way, and boy was he right!
