Young Franks set for trials
BRIDLINGTON Town footballer Leigh Franks, who only made his first team debut on Boxing Day, has impressed so much that at least than five football league clubs have expressed an interest in him.
Although only 15, he has taken the step up to UniBond League Division One in his stride, and after just five appearances Championship clubs Leeds United, Hull City and West Bromwich Albion, plus division one clubs Huddersfield Town and Bradford City have all made enquiries about the talented youngster.

The Filey School pupil started his football career with Hunmanby Juniors and was invited to join Scarborough FC's School of Excellence at the age of 10. They were keen to retain his services but Leigh opted to join his friends, whose father Kevin Wardell runs Bridlington Town Under 19s, and that was a decision that will have hopefully launched the youngster towards his ambition of becoming a professional footballer.

Mr Wardell told the Free Press: "When Paul Marshall was Town's manager, he rang and asked if I had a full back capable of playing at Belper on Boxing Day and without hesitation I told him that Leigh would fit the bill. Marshall took my advice and Leigh was voted man of the match and has held his place ever since."

Ashley Berry, joint-manager of Bridlington Town, confirmed that he and Paul Stoneman had recommended Franks to Huddersfield Town and Bradford City: "The lad has done a good job for us on both flanks, he is strong and has an exceptionally long throw, he has great potential and could go a long way. We have given permission for Leigh to spend three or four days at Huddersfield Town during half term and we will have to see what comes of it."

Speaking to the Free Press Leigh, who considers his best position to be either centre back or right back, said: "Although I support Leeds United I am looking forward to spending a few days with Huddersfield Town next week and I will do my best to impress because I have always wanted to be a professional footballer."

Whilst we have been linked with him obviously that is more down to his agent and club touting him to us rather than us spotting him. i think these last paragraphs suggest he will be at Huddersfield within the month.
