I can't say I'm having much luck on the food front at the moment.

Tonight it was La Rue for Rlasses birthday. Not being very hungry I passed on the starter but the missus thought her salmon, spinach, boiled egg tart thingy was lovely.

The problems started at 10.15 when the main courses arrived(sat at our table at 9.05). After enjoying two mouthfuls of my 'well done' sirloin steak and commenting how nice it was, as I cut into the main part of the steak I was horrified to see copious amounts of cows blood seeping out of it. How I stopped myself from barfing I'll never know. How the f**k people eat 'rare' steak with blood oozing out of it is beyond my comprehension. They might as well enter a field with a machete, hack a piece off the nearest beast and eat the fooker while the animal's still breathing.

You mean you like your steak on the rare side.

I used to think steak should be brown all the way through. Now I am sure a good steak needs a very pink runny interior.

Just eaten magret de canard (duck) very bloody but tasty.

You can actually taste the diference in the meat when you eat it blue.

Which is always my preference

Why have all the goodness cooked out of it - then cover it in pepper sauce????

A proper aberdeen angus steak - wipe it's arse cut off its horns and show it the grill - then slaughter it before you put it on my plate - although the slaughter bit is optional mmmmmmmmmmmm

Proper food.

Depends on the cut of meat!!....

Fillet as a muscle does hardly any work, because of this its very tender and usually fat free - it needs to be eaten rare or medium.....you loose any taste by overcooking fillet and because its so tender it doesn't even need cooking - steak tartare anyone? (tried it once wasn't impressed but each to their own)

Sirloin or T-bone/Ribeye is slightly tougher but the toughness of the meat is normally made up for by the marbled fat running through it which means it too is very tender and shouldn't be overcooked - i like it medium!!

Rump steak is the one steak which can be given a bit of stick, its the toughest of the steak cuts because as a muscle its done the most work, because of this cooking it longer helps to break down the tissues, tenderising it and i normally have it medium/well done.....

Tougher muscle - more taste - more cooking
Less tough muscle - less taste (even less if you overcook) - less cooking

I don't eat beef, it's too expensive and not very nice anyway. I occassionally get it minced for homemade burgers but thats about it. The thought of blood oozing out makes me gip to be honest. And when I have eaten steaks or cuts of beef they're usually frazzled into tasting like damp cardboard. There will be a compromise somewhere but I don't fancy experimenting to find it...

i think if you ask any chef they'll tell you that the best way to eat steak is rare. as rare as possible i say, i urge anyone who hasn't tried it rare to just give it a go i promise you you'll eventually start to eat your steak rare.

So farming mink for fur coats is OK as long as nobody eats them?

I have no issue with people becoming vegetarian for health reasons or because they don't like the taste of meat, but to me if you are a veggie for moral reasons then you should be a vegan. It's either moral to exploit animals for your benefit or it isn't.

If the world was to stop animal exploitation should all the culled domesticated animals just be burnt or would we be allowed to eat them until they were extinct?

Good post - thats my exact point!!

Prawny for all the best intentions is very passionate about his veggi-ism and fair play to him, but he's a bit naive when it comes to arguing his case/point....

I mean why does this thread need to be "balanced" in the 1st place (PK's words) - do we need to invite a group of asians on to "balance" the Bradford riots thread too?....

When you have the substance and argument to back up what you spout on about PK you'll have my ear, i'll listen to what you have to say with an open mind - but you either need to do a lot more research on what you preach, either that or stop preaching to people who have no intention of being converted!!.....;)

Garlic Breath

I'll have my say wheather you like it or not...you have yours and I dont agree with some of what you say but that dont stop you.
I dont need or want or have to have "your ear" on anything.....apart from on a stick;)
Its getting better though......from ignorant to naive...keep trying and you may have "my ear" for some of the claptrap you go on about.

But you tend to try to take the moral high ground in these discussions. OK you might give a graphic description of a meat-eater's colon on the health benefit sided but more often than not you take the Meat is Murder line. You have said before that your choice now is no longer health related (even changing your diet to avoid fish).

I find every comment on this thread absolutely disgusting and abhorantI'd boot his fucking face the murdering bastardmeat is meat regardless of its colour and murder is murder
I appreciate that much of what you write here is tongue in cheek but the quotes above tend more towards a moral argument that anything else.
