With Light Phillips available for 13 Million less than was paid for him 18 Months ago. Schevstinko evidently on his way back initially on loan to Milan, even Jose's biggest fans must agree that however rich a club is, a bad buy is a bad buy and these two are just another two in an increasing line. Ranieri's buys won't be around to bail him out forever.

Dunno about Ranieri but I agree that if money talks, it's talking a lot of bollocks at Chelski this season.

I agree that SWP has to get away for his careers sake but Sheva might yet work out given time. Some players need time to settle into the pace of the English game. Drogba was slagged off last year but he looks good this year & the guy Evra at ManU was Kack last year but is 1st choice for Fergie over Heinze & Silvestre at the moment .

Shevchenko had a reasonable game last night. He's still got a bit to do to prove himself in Chelsea colours, but I wouldn't write him off yet. As jantje said, Drogba took a while to settle but he's had a superb season this year - just as well given that Shevchenko is taking his time to bed in.
Still not a fan of Chelsea Chuckles :D
Nice to see Liverpool are moving forward with their signing. Hows Bellamy fitting in :D

Maybe he should take tips off Rafa about signings, he's made some beauty's this season eh - i mean Bellamy, Pennant and that Brazilian kid who sounds like a breakfast cereal aint half set the premier league on fire!!....
Form is temporary - class is permanent, Drogba was shite for over a year - now he's the best striker in the premier league - Shevva will come good!!
Says a lot about the chasing pack tho don't it when Chelsea can afford to play with two out of sorts players.....

Schevstinko is past it and not capable of playing above the pedestrian pace of Serie A. That has been obvious since, let me see....I predicted as much the day he signed. He cost more on his own than Liverpools buys over the last two seasons combined. That's before you take into account his 130k a week wages. I'm not saying he's shite, but he's past his best and wasn't worth 30 Mill when he was the most feared striker in Europe. The point I'm trying to make is that Jose, cannot perform in the Transfer market. I have yet to see one of his buys give value for money. If he was at a team where money counted and he had to keep an eye on the purse strings, he'd have been outed as a faliure long ago. However bottomless a pit of money a team has to work with, a 13 Million loss on a player signed little over a year ago and the farming out of a 30 Million flop is faliure, not success and it's indefensible by even the more ardent Blues on here. It just gets skimmed over because money is no object to Chelsea. He'd not have lasted two minutes at a big club.
BTW Matty, would that Chasing Pack, be the one Chelsea are at the front of right now??

Had Chelsea not had a multi-million pound owner, the signings they've made would have been half the price they ended up paying.....you know that, i know that and every club in Europe knows that - unfortunately having an oil tycoon chairman ensures you pay 50% more than everyone else.....
I happen to agree BTW - no way has Shevva ever been worth near to 30 million, no player on this planet has ever been worth anywhere near that....
stupid money - stupid times, but, hey - if you've got it flaunt it eh?....

No - that would be the chasing pack of Arsenal, Bolton, Villa, Everton etc etc....
Followed by the 3rd tier of clubs dreaming of the last UEFA spot, teams like Reading, Wigan and Liverpool.....

Every single one of whom will be trailing in the wake of the Mighty Reds when it actually matters. Theres only Villa out of that lot that capable of taking fourth behind Liverpool Chelsk and Champions Elect; United.

Rafa Club has blamed injuries, but his decision to leave a top striker out altogether may have played a big part (CISSE)

Didnt Villa get stuffed by Man City????
Pompey are still there with all their injuries and fooked up after only just holding out to get a point against the supposed top tier kicking boys...
0-0 wasnt it Against errrrrrrmmmm who was it now????
Pompey and Bolton will top Villa...
O Squeal will not make top six like Gregory and O'Nearly did....Not unless they sign a decent manager with a pedigree of errrmmmm Strachan lets say...

I'd forgot about Portsmouth, yet another huge name in world football to add to Reading and Watford who'll finish above "the mighty reds".....

You don't think Arsenal will make the top 4 this year?
They have a game in hand over Liverpool and a +10 better goal difference.

I think the "Highbury" factor will cost them because they have not been the same since moving to the Emirates. If you cast your mind back to when they used to play their Champions League matches at Wembley, they were Rhubarb. I think the new ground has been a chink in their armour.
Liverpool will finish top 4 without doubt. Bolton are on the slide already and Portsmouth will be nowhere near come May. Like I said Villa are as good a bet as any to gatecrash the Champs League places in the way Spurs almost did last season. They have now got the best manager in the League and he'll be able to spend a few quid come January and he'll know how to spend it wisely, unlike others.

I agree to the Highbury factor a little, and they certainly aren't the force they were last season at home but I think they will come good and are more than capable of a top 4 finish.
They had no problems with Liverpool down at the Emirates, it's the small teams they are struggling against like Boro.
If Liverpool want to make the top 4 they will have to overcome their fear of playing outside of Liverpool.
What is it 1 goal and 1 point so far this season?

Not having a dig here - and not defending McClaren (can't do with him either) - but how come you slated the England manager for picking Stevie G on the wing - yet never even a slight wiff of criticism for Rafa picking him in the same position week in week out?....

I think I have. He's a centre midfielder to play him anywhere else is taking something away from any team. My main gripe with McLaren is that he plays him there because he knows he's more versatlile than Wank Jr and he hasn't got the balls to put Wank Jr on the bench, where he belongs.

Lamps is playing the best footy of his career at the moment mate, there's no way he should be on the bench......he's the reason why Chelsea have been able to stroll it recently - even tho they've been carrying Ballack and Shevvy!!
A change of formation built around Lamps, Stevie G and Hargreaves is needed rather than dropping one of em....

Is he heckers like, he's not playing owt like the season before last and the first half of last season. He's improved a bit but he couldn't get any worse than he was up to, during and just after the World Cup, he stank to high heaven. It's either or with Stevie and Frank for the attacking midfielder spot if England want to even stand a chance of getting to Switzerland/Austria and nobody in the right mind would pick Frank over England's talisman.

You think they would've been able to attract the likes of Ballack (100,000+ a week) or Drogba or Shevchenko if they didn't have the money?#
Jose to the three money-grabbing spoiling football cnuts: "Hey guys come and join us, we'll give you a fat wage packet and you'll have loads of success, we're thinking of buying the Premiership for £135m this season as we haven't won it in 50 years. It doesn't matter that we're destroying the club's history and we'll disillusion most of our loyal supporters who believed what this club stood for before this Russian arse took over, all that matters is we win and I promise you the treble in your first season, that means more MONEY!!"

Could Manure or Liverpool of old or even the gooners attract top flight players without them splashing the cash...
Everyone always moans about the biggest wallet in football..Now its Chelseas turn...I think matty had it right when he said that the fact Roman is at the club makes transfers inflate to Chelsea...
The flip side is that when a side says it will cost you 30 million he just says
"Cheque or Cash"
Chelsea attracted big names under Guillet Raneiri and Vialli....Just cheaper in those days...jump:

Most likely be a cheque. Money laundering laws would probably prevent cash being exchanged as a method of payment.
Just a minor correction.
