View Full Version : Have we hit the hardcore attendance levels yet?

All this talk of people staying away if Todd remains, I'm just wondering what the actual realistic minimum the crowd could go down to if we went as badly as it is possible to go this season and were relegated.

The last relegation we had in May 04 essentially knocked 3,000 off our crowd figures - our lowest attendance during that season was just below 10,000. The following season our lowest attendance was 6,732, against Walsall on Saturday 11 December 2004 when we drew 1-1. That remains as our lowest attendance, and apart from a couple of evening games that aren't really representative our lowest figure has been 7,139 against Port Vale on Saturday 22 April 06. That's not counting cup games.

All of the glory supporters are gone now. Those who remain are the truly loyal ones, and I honestly don't think that the figures will get much lower now, even if we drop a division. Perhaps a 1,000 off these figures, leaving us with attendances at a minimum of 6,000.

Still, I could be wrong. Where do you think our attendance figures hit rock bottom at?

It's hard to say Baldy because with season ticket holders been included in the attendance whether they turn up or not and the club confirming that 800 season ticket holders didn't turn up for a game last season we will never know how bad the attendance has fallen.

I would guess at between 5-6000 hardcore even allowing for season ticket holders not turning up for various games

I appreciate that the figures may not reflect people in the ground, but they do reflect tickets sold and income generated, which is the important thing at present.

800 may have stayed away from a match, but that doesn't mean that they will all not renew their tickets come the end of the season. People miss matches for all kinds of reasons, and it doesn't necessarily reflect their intentions for next season.

To be fair, there may also be a few seeing out their tickets because they have paid for them and not intending to renew, but I think it's difficult to read too much in to potential season ticket renewals at this point.

I would expect season ticket sales to stay roughly the same - if you have shown the level of commitment necessary to buy a season ticket this season, given the events of the last few years, then you have a relatively strong commitment. No doubt some will drop off, but I wouldn't expect it to be significant.

If attendances do fall I think it will be mainly down to the pay on the gate supporters who make a decision match by match. Some of them do this because they can't afford a season ticket or their circumstances dictate they cannot get to enough matches to make it worthwhile, but a reasonable number are week by week because they are picking and choosing which games to attend.

Anybody got a figure for what our season ticket sales were this season, because I can't remember off the top of my head.

I've always had a season ticket as i find them good value on the whole and although i think the numbers of ticket holders will fall next season (results pending) i think there are enough floating supporters to maintain a level of above 5000 at least. The club doesn't seem to help itself with the marketing & public image though compared to the Bulls.

I think a lot of potential fans are just apathetic after a few fallow years following relegation from the Prem. I mean fans that were regulars before we got promoted but for various reasons don't feel compelled to go anymore.

I've just spunked what i'd spend on a season ticket on an xbox 360 which i won't even use very often, i'll probably do the same next month on another "gadget" - i probably spend over the price of a bantams bar season ticket on beer in a month aswell, there's plenty of folk like me who can easily afford one - but can't be arsed - the reason i aint got a season ticket this year is because watching City is no longer a pleasure - sure it was at the start of the season and i didn't miss any of the 1st 8 or 9 games home or away, but it sooned turned to the same old, same old.....which is the 1st time i've felt this way in 24 years, i've been "Todderised" i didn't even feel like this in the Docherty years....:(
As has been mentioned many times by folk - the social aspect is the only thing that keeps me going, even if it is infrequently - i'm looking forward to next Friday night, namely 9.45, the time i leave the bantams bar and go on the lash afterwards!!

I remember when we played Brighton at home in 94 or 95 & the attendance was 3,700 or thereabouts!.....like Rick said, the ground could be empty but the club would still say 3k S/T holders turned up:(

Sack the Turd, you know it makes sensetup:

I can tell you now that no matter what the result this Saturday I will not be attending the game next Friday night against Millwall and I doubt many others will either.

Hard to put a figure on this ! The fact that season tickets are counted in messes the figures up anyway as they dont all turn up as is evident when you look around the ground ! so that being the case it would still show as 5,000 plus !

the only way your going to get a proper figure is by asking for the pay n the gat e people

The announced figure includes season tickets, pay on the day and freebies - given out to schools etc ...so never a true reflectionon numbers of bums on seats ......

knowing City they could rearrange a match and forget to let the fans know, so I'll go for zero ;)

i think on satudray there'll be a sizeable attencance due to the give away prices, next friday it'll be desserted though...i know im not off (dragonforce gig)

i think if things continue in the same vein by the end of the season tehre could be as little as 4,200 at V.P

If we get relegated and Todd gets sacked I'll renew my season ticket. If Todd is still in charge I will most certainly not renew even if we are in this division.
I am sick of this football being served up.
