This is interesting:

http://www.yorkshiretoday.co.uk/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=4878&ArticleID=1835695

It confirms that Todd is contracted until May 31, 2009.

"Colin took it on a week-to-week basis and it was only after we came out of administration that we were able to award him a long-term contract.
"I deliberately made it a long one (until May 31, 2009) because what this club needed was stability.
And that is what he has given us."

Also, that our wage budget is about middle of the road for this division, both last year and this:

"I was making noises about going for promotion and yet, in reality, our wage bill was distinctly mid-table in terms of the division. Which is, funnily enough, where we finished."
City's wage bill of a little under £1.5m for the current season is dwarfed by clubs such as Doncaster Rovers and Bristol City with Rhodes estimating it is again "about mid-table in terms of League One".

And pretty much confirming that Rhodes will stick with Todd come hell or high water:

Rhodes said: "Colin came in for a lot of stick and I really felt for him. It got so bad at one stage that his wife stopped coming to games. No one wants to hear things like that being said about your partner.
"But I was resolute throughout in insisting there would be no change. There was a really low period around February or March when we seemed to be getting dragged into the relegation fight, but I always felt Colin was the right man for us.
"We were only a few points above the bottom four and had more or less the worst home record in the division. But we also had the fourth best away record and I remember thinking 'the hardest thing in football is to win away from home, so we must be doing something right and I know Colin will sort out our home form'.
"I kept my nerve, so did Colin and by the end of the season we were on a decent run and, more importantly, winning at home.

Ok, that bit is talking about the slump at the start of the year, but I see no reason why JR's attitude would change.

That's his right as a chairman, to want us to be mid table. If he doesn't currently have the resources for us to fight above our weight fair play to him. I'd rather we were around mid-table flirting with the playoffs than whacking out a massive wage bill we can't afford and start heading back down the meltdown road.

Those who aren't should look at there own bank accounts and consider buying Rhodes out :D

Now all those who said we had one of the largest wage bills please stand up and say you were all wrong :) I stated last season our budget was pants and no-where near the size people on here kept saying and was belittled for it - maybe I could have an apology too :D

All those who said Todd was on a rolling contract, when I've been persistant in saying it wasn't rolling - please admit you were wrong too :) Think even Chuckle was right about Todd's contract.

I wonder what our wage bill is compared to the teams which find themselves above us in the form of Yeovil, Scunthorpe, Crewe, etc

Look at Scunthorpes £300,000 loss this year and work it out for yourself :)

We have steam rolled Crewe twice this season and theres only 4 points between us, They are known for small wage budgets.

That counts for nothing, Huddersfield beat City twice when City were promoted. Crewe are above us in the league and that is more important than one off victories.

Personally I'm not happy seeing players not giving a toss because they know their manager will end up in the paper making excuses.

He's doing exactly what was needed after the administration, stabilising. In order to do that and get your house in order then you get mid-table safety first and foremost. Relegation has to be avoided obviously and tbh you don't want a flirtation with promotion too early because that then raises the bar and expectations go through tyhe roof, increasing the pressure to find funds that aren't there.

Sensible comments from the Chairman.

Thats fair enough SFB, but at the start of the season the Chairman said play-offs were a minimum requirement, thereby raising everyones expectations or was he, as Chuckle would say, cynically using fans hopes to sell season tickets?

baldbantam
11-23-2006, 11:01 AM
That was purely to sell tickets.

The minimum requirement was avoiding relegation, in my opinion. And given the above, probably not even that.

Whether people like it or not, get used to the idea that Todd is with us for the foreseeable future. He has two and a half years left on his contract, which means that it will be at least 18 months before it could be considered anywhere near economically viable to pay him off, even if we slip a division.

Aim low, aim so low that even if you succeed no one will notice.

Ed

Do a search for wage bills on Google :)

All those teams who have gone up from this division have had wage bills of £2 million + ... even Crewe's wage bill is bigger than ours.

Sheff Wednesday did it on £2 million and they had a pants squad, there championship budget isn't much bigger.

I wouldn't say "cynically" using fans. I'd say smart business sense. What would you rather? He comes out and says we have no chance this year, we're on a shoestring budget, I have no confidence in the manager and we'll be lucky to avoid relegation. That would attract the customers and investors wouldn't it! Every Chairman at the beginning of the season would say they are looking for top 6 give or take one or two who would look for consolidation usually after a promotion, a la Watford, Sheff Utd and when we went up to the first and then the Prem us.

I doubt he used the words "minimum requirement", I think they will have been his target, that doesn't mean minimum requirement.

No mate, if it's dying it's a slow death. It's been limping around like a wounded animal since the first administration. Still, some injured animals recover and I'm sticking with this one.

My interpretation of a vote of confidence follows a bad run... that article, I think, followed our good start so it was just Julie saying... "look!.. see!... I told you I was right to guarantee Todd 5 years of money for nothing (and chicks for free)"....

We are in dire straits.

This is only a rumour .... and I state it clearly that it's a rumour.

Rhodes had Todd in the office this morning and told him he has 3 games to save his job, Rhodes is also disappointed about the fact fans haven't been down in there droves to buy tickets for tomorrow's game.

The person this came from is quiet close to the club but still i'd say it's only a rumour.

Far more common factors than Todd - the board for a start.

And how many of the team have been here for at least 3 years?

Mallorcabantam
11-24-2006, 03:43 PM
Do the board get involved on the field? -- the new players that come in every year should have a good attitude, as yet untinted -- and if CTs lost the dressing room (every year) why dont many players want away, yet the older playrs sign up for more! -- maybe there is a clique down there :D

Bower, Wetherall & Windass....probably the three most consistent players in the squad;) ....your insane if your implying this team isn't Turds, he's had 3 years to build & early season form as shown the standard of football they are capable of....The talent & application is there, all thats needed is a manager who can motivate his team for 9 months of a season instead of 3 IMOtup:
