This guys name might not mean a lot to younger posters but just look at his record at club and international level. A true legendary figure & leader of the team that totally embarrassed England twice in a year. His team would surely have won the world cup in 1954 if the Germans hadn't kicked him to bits in the earlier group game. The Germans were then suspected of using performance enhancing drugs in the fial before such things were ever widely known about. Syringes were found stuffed down a drain in their changing room. A true footballing legend.

Thanks for that JS. I haven't spotted it on our news yet. As you say,it might not mean much to the younger posters but it sure means something to me. I watched that 1953 match on television and it made a real impression on me,as it did the rest of England. He was just a genius to watch and left you wondering just how did he do it. Sad to see that he suffered from Alzheimers for so long. That is a terrible affliction. RIP Ferenc Puskas. Cheers.

Hi Bill, i only saw film of the 'Magical Magyars' but i also saw the Real Madrid v Eintracht European Cup Final where Puskas & De Stefano were unplayable, possibly on of the greatest displays by a club side ever.

Even I'm not old enough to have seen him play but his reputation does go before him and he is understandably revered in the game:) .... and great for anagrams..:D

The terms- genius, legend etc can used lavishley at times to players who don't really deserve the status. Puskas did. de Stefano wasn't too bad either !
Cheers.

Blimey, only had a left foot, couldn't head a ball,800 hundred and odd goals, staggering!

A guy that really did deserve the word legendary attached to his name.

RIP.

Too oftne people like Puskas don't get considered when talking up Pele, Maradona and Cruyf. His goalscoring record stands up to any test and he played for the three best sides in the world at their respective time. Hungary, Honved and Real Madrid.

RIP

When I was working in Budapest a few years back, I was lucky enough to be introduced to the man himself. He was obviously very ill, and it felt like a real pity to meet a true legend in such a condition. A true honour though.
RIP
