I've been thinking of buying an X-Box 360 having played PES6 at the weekend and absolutely loving it but realise that the Wii and PS3 are coming out soon. not knowing too much about any of these consoles perhaps you could all share your ahem....... wisdom on such matters and direct me to the best choice. i have to say i like the look of the control pad thing on the Wii and have heard that Microsoft or X-Box have got the rights to exclusively have PES and Fifa on their console in a couple of years?
or if anyone know where i can buy a relatively cheap 360 until the other 2 come out that would be good too.

Funny you should say that - i was asking Bullbantam (gadget geek) this very morning on the merits of the xbox 360 - i have to say that call of duty 3 looks fookin awesome, i have a HD TV aswell so the picture quality would be out of this world.....i was gonna buy one tomorrow, but i'm instead going to ponder it for a while longer - with a snapper in the household i'm wondering whether i'll have time for one and after you've bought 3 or 4 games and paid for a wireless network adapter your looking at 500 nicka!!!

You mena if it ever gets released!
Of course i am a loyal xbox convert from the shitty ps2!
PS3 will take forever to release due to the fact that Xbox is better and they keep having to re do everything!
Not to mention they have copied xbox live system and renamed it as their own!
get an xbox, simply for halo 3

Wii is the new console from Nintendo that is going to be released next month and which I will be getting for Xmas jump:
It's different to Playstation and Xbox which are both great gaming consoles, in that you can actually use the hand held to fight using it as a sword in a game or if you are say playing a computer game of tennis.
Quite honestly I much prefer the PC for playing games, but I will be getting the Nintendo now because I like the idea of getting some exercise in front of the TV :D
As for the XBox and Playstaion, they're are both excellent, though if I were to be forced to choose I would probably wait for the PS3 to come out.

thanks BIN that's what i was after. NOT aide professing his love for the errm sexbox (strange fellow that adie). Exercise in front of the TV you say an interesting concept, that said it’s probably been around since the advent of TV and more frequently the VHS ;)

I favour Barbarian on the Commodore 64, as well as Daley Thompson's Decathlon.
The amount of joysticks fooked from that game.

I have played the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube from the last generation consoles and as im a fairly casual game player I preferred the Gamecube as it has the pickup and play quality to it. At the end of the day it’s meant to be a boredom breaker not a bloomin lifestyle choice or a full time commitment.
As a kid I used to love playing video games as have been mentioned the commodore 16 and commodore 64 kept me out of mischief on them rainy days. I went through the process of owning a NES and a SNES which always dragged behind when it came to the graphics but the game play was addictive. The thing is with me im not a graphics snob so calling my console a Sexbox or saying it looks sexy is never going to happen.
With all that in mind I, like BiN shall be buying a Wii. It’s the sort of console you can pick up and play if you have half an hour spare or get the lads around and play it pissed up. I own a Gamecube and when money has been low I just get the lads around with a fridge full of cans, Mariokart Double Dash and good fun is had by all.
The other thing with the Wii is that they have included a Virtual Console which means you can play NES, SNES, Nintendo 64 the Sega games systems and it is rumoured the Commodore 64 and possibly some other. The games will be available to download using a similar system to iTunes for prices between £3 and £7, although im sure those prices will drop.
It really depends what you like Booshie, Graphics, Game play or having some deep emotion (indeed sexual) relationship with you games console. Look at the games available and read reviews see which ones grab you the most.
When all said and done a games console is only as good as the games that are availible on it.
This puts the XBOX 360 at the top of the pile because it's got a large list of games already and will soon beable to sell them at budget prices. I also expect the console price to be slashed when the PS3 is released.

Some interesting points BoTO. I, like you am now very much a casual gamer, where's in my youth I was hardcore. I used to play for hours at a time and lose sleep by playing into the wee hours. Over the years I have been a Nintendo man really owning a NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube, I've always found that Nintendo produce real classic games such as Mario Kart but the good games like these are few and far between as the third party developers tend to stick with what I consider to be style over substance machines like the Playstation. Look at the first Playstaion there were very few actual good games to play, they looked nice though. It's my worry with the Wii, that third party developers will continue their trend and treat Nintendo as the vagrant cousin and ignore the potential of Nintendo’s new system. Also the fact that Nintendo tend to innovate everything in the console/games market may alienate other developers especially with the new control pad thing on the new Wii.
For the record there will be no sexual relationship with any console I buy as I struggle enough with women tup:

Yup, the whole third party issue is always a problem with Nintendo consoles but im of the opinion that the actual playability of the likes of Mariokart, Mariogolf, Mariotennis, Fzero, Starfox outweighs the lack of other titles.
Just a brief look around on the various websites and there seems to be quite a lot of support from the main players in the industry (EA, Tecmo, Ubisoft, Gearbox etc…) Obviously the proof is in the pudding, which is why I usually hold back until after launch to see what other games are planned. The main plus point of the Wii is that it is different and it has the complete backlog available (plus I can play my cube games on it). Also launch games like Red Steel, Call of Duty, Wii Sports (hee hee) and Zelda all look pretty good.

It depends which games you want to play, and which ones you already have.
I've had a PS1 and a PS2, which means I've got a pretty big collection of PS games. If I get a PS3 I'll still be able to play them, whereas with an X-Box I wouldn't be able to. I know you can just keep the old console as well, but it's a pain having to muck about changing them over.
My two must have games when they come out are the Tomb Raiders and Gran Turismos. That pretty much means I'll be getting a PS3.

The whole back catalogue of games doesn't really affect me that much as I tend to sell on any console that I have once I’ve finished with it. You can buy cheap second hand classics from everywhere these days anyway so if there was a game that I wanted it wouldn't be a problem. I take you point about having to change consoles all the time though that would become tedious. My problem is I love games like Halo, Mario Kart, Zelda, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Fifa, PES most of which are limited to the one console, or at the most 2 of the 3.

I've always purchased PS for the same reason, but in all honesty, how many times do you play the older console games on the new one?
The older games seem dated compared to the new ones & I soon get bored of playing the olders ones....If i do its usually for nostalgic reasons only.;)
Retro gaming is always good for a laugh.
My PSP has various emulators on and I tend to have a blast on Mario Kart, Sensible Soccer and Street Fighter II when bored.

I have SWOS on my PC via an Amiga emulator, there is an emulator for it on the PSP but there is no point as there is no keyboard.
The Sensible soccer for my PSP is the Snes and Megadrive version.

I bought an Xbox360 last week and am absolutely chuffed with it! I was like you and wasn't sure about what to do! The PS3 WILL be better than the 360 without a doubt as the main reason it was delayed was that Sony were developing it to make it much better than the 360!
The games for the Xbox360 and PS3 will be very similar, with only a few exclusive titles, but like you say although the Wii does look better the game selection will be poor!
I have PES6 and Call Of Duty 3, along with Splinter Cell 4 for the Xbox360, they're all amazing games, unbelievable graphics and great gameplay!
At the end of the day mate it comes down to how much money you're willing to pay and how long you want to wait to get the console! I was waiting for the PS3 but decided on the 360 mainly due to impatience and the fact taht when the PS3 does come out it'll be around £500! jawdrop:
I got a great deal form Virgin Megastores by the way...
- Premium 360 Console
- Two Wireless Controllers
- PES6
- Oblivion
- PGR3
....for £320! tup:

You should give it a try. If you have time to post on a messageboard then playing video games is no better or worse a use of time. The Tomb Raider games are exercises in analytical problem solving.
