Some say that the premiership is the best league in the world. Others say the italian or spanish is best. Some germans even think theirs is best. Thoughts?

The Premiership is without doubt the most exciting league in the World but i think the others, especially the Spanish & Italian are more technical than ours!

The German league was up there with the best but they went through a slump & flooded their league with over paid, over-rated foreigners (sound familiar?) at the expense of up & coming young German players about a decade ago:( ....I think they have just reversed the trend in the last few years but most of their promising young talent appears to be immigrants from Poland, Turkey ect...If the WC is owt to go by!tup:

England is the most exciting league and I think has the most passionate fans and best attendances. Its the fastest league and also probably the most physical. But like Parrot says, spain is more technical, the passing over there is quality, I went to the Barcelona v Alaves game earlier this year, and Alaves were bottom of the table and got well beat but there passing was brilliant to say they were the worst side in that league.

yeah, that about sums up my opinion, too. I think the atmosphere in the crowd adds a lot of quality to the prem, but as you said, the average technical ability in spain and italy is superb.

I agree that for passion, colour & fanaticism the Argie league takes some beating although watching stuff like the J league & Korean league are great atmospheres but football wise i like the Premier League & La Liga for entertainment. I find the Italian league to stop-start & slower in the build up with more cynical fouling going on

The Premiership is without doubt the most exciting league in the World :

It certainly is not the most exciting in terms of uncertainty of outcome with only three or four teams in with a chance of winning it. Three different champions in the last ten years and a concentration of points among the top three clubs means that, effectively, most clubs are just playing to be fourth, or more often just to stay up.
The fear of losing and being relegated has made many midtable and lower teams negative, especially away from home and there are loads of low scoring games that are about exciting as watching paint dry.
Just how good the Premier League is in terms of the class football can be ascertained by the abysmal performance of English clubs in Europe. Since 1992 there have been two winners and one runner up of the champions league but when you look at how many English clubs have reached the quarter finals of the Cl and UEFA Cup, a better indicator of the general strength of a league, we trail in behind Italy, Germany, Spain and even France.
People say the Premier League attracts the best players from around the world, but only 5 of the 44 players who lined up for the World Cup semi finals played in the Prem, and none of the winning team ply their trade in England. And the performance of the England team in international compeition?
As for atmoshpere in the stadiums; the last two games I saw were Chelsea v Villa and West Ham v Charlton, neither match had the crowd very excited, West Hams new stadium is really soulless compared to the old Upton Park.
Where the Premier League stands head and shoulders above foreign rivals is in world wide tv viewers with global audience of over 500 million regularly tuning in from over 170 countries. However, a lot of that is in China where its on free tv.
The premier league is the best MARKETED league in the world, hardly surprising when you consdier that its biggest investor also owns the best selling newspapers. It has become a soap opera where half the matches are really inceidental to the actual outcome of the league and look at how much newsprint is acutally given over to either transfer specualtion or managers losing their jobs as opposed to the actual games themselves.
The myth that the premier league is the best in the world is one perpetuated by the media, to sell TV subscriptions, and the FA, to justify its indefensible decision to back the Premier League/ Football league plit of 1992.
